Topic: the apostrophe of it all! Return to archive
26th April 2007 04:12 PM
Starbuck why is it that a large portion of those whose native language is english still have not mastered the use of the apostrophe?

i'm not trying to sound smart...just curious. i just saw a website that said, "come to a minnesota twin's game!".

your/you're is another one.

i'll hand up and take my answer off the air. thanks!

I found out that it's better to drink wednesdays and thursdays, than mondays and fridays. It gives a nice feeling to the week.

Starbuck yes, that was good. no apostrophes necessary in that sentence.

Proably because they don't give a fuck.
Or maybe there are other things more important in life...like family or making money.

He told me yes yes yes
I do it all the time
Ain't this boogie a mess?
The answer my friend should be easy to see
The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe

Sadly, the majority of adults in 2007 believe it to be correct for a banner to say "100's of Carpet's for Sale!"

Highwire Rob I totally agree with you Starbuck. Also it isn't the 60's 70's 80's unless it's possessive like 80's music. That really irks me!

But the worst (not worse) thing here in SW Pennsylvania is that some otherwise intelligent people are so slack in their grammar that they have eliminated subject and predicate altogether.

Do you hear in your office: "This needs faxed." or "This order needs confirmed."

WTF! I NEEDS TO LEARN THEM SOME GRAMMAR!

"C'mon kids, I gotta learn y'all some grammar!!"

this is true. look at the history of rome, for example. by the 5th century, the average roman on the street had completely lost the understanding of both the subjunctive and the sequence of tenses. as a result, the visigoths and the huns totally trashed the place.

the same could happen here (terrorists, packers fans).
