JaggaRichards Whats these rumors about a free show in Toronto all about?
05-15-03 08:07 PM
Bluzian Well, from what I hear across all the local radio stations,
it's been confirmed, and the three levels of gov't (Municipal,
Provincial and Fed'l) have all approved of it.

It's happening on Tue. July 29th @ Downsview Airport.
It will be free, (b/c of all this bad press T.O. has been
getting about SARS (blown WAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of proportion)
and the Minister of Tourism (Runciman?) has pushed for
some kind of tax releif / Aid package to the tune of $185M
to alleviate the problems and ameliorate the economic slump
T.O. has been hit with. Add Michael Cohl in there, with
the Stones love of Toronto, plus a week break in between
Prague (july 27th) and Hannover (Aug 8) and you get this
free show, expected to attract 500,000 to 800,000 people!!!

Apparently Diana Krall, BNL, and the Pathetically Hip are
all going to be joining them, as it's going to be this
internationally televised media event for the whole fucking
world to see (that Toronto is SAFE and not a health hazard!)

it's fucking brilliant!!!!!

Who's coming to T.O.??????!!!!!!

Ian :-)

Miss U. Smiling ear to ear!!!!!

God bless the ROLLING T.O. STONES!

This will go down in music history with Woodstock!
Just wish the Hip weren't playing.
How about Remy Shand, Alannah Myles, Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell, David Wilcox for starters??!!!!

I thought I'd park at your place, Ian. We'll walk it in from Guelph. Or, perhaps I could get a 12-minute flight from Waterloo-Wellington Airport to Downsview?!

Ruskafarian Why not RUSH? I mean, I think they're the biggest band to ever leave Canada...

Who else from Canada is more famous than RUSH?

Speaking of, if there are any RUSH fans here, there's a DVD from the Vapour Trails Tour being released...

Bluzian Ewww!! You like RusH?? As a canadian, I'm not too fond of
typically canadian music. I cringe!! ALanis? Celine?? Rush?
Rita MacNeil? Ashley MacIsaac? Good God. I can tell ya,
if it's canadian acts like that who will be joinign the
Stones on stage in T.O., I will *NOT* be going. I'd be too
embarrased.

OK, I can do the Diana Krall; Remy Shand; GuessWho; Colin
James; Paul James; David Wilcox; absolutely. Maybe Dan
Ackroyd will be MC??

Lazy: YeaH~ check on flights! I'd be down with that. How
bout a helicopter?? Btw, I never knew you lived in KW!?!?
WOW!! I'm impressed. Cheers mate.

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but I think this DVD have the show performed here in Brazil, So Paulo, Morumbi Stadium, last year (2002). Is this correct?

Bluzian, I know that there is a lot of controversy about which Canadian artists are good and which are not, but remember - music is an art, and art is an opinion. Some people will like the Tragically Hip, some won't. (I don't.) I can see why you (or anyone else) wouldn't like RUSH, I mean Geddy's (LV + Bassist) voice especially - I know it can get really annoying - but I do think that they are very, very musically inclined. To be completley honest, I wasn't a very big fan until I saw them live - that was incredible. They are very syncronized and very, very passionate about their music. But hey - to each his/her own, right?

Lazy - I don't know. I'm not by any means saying that RUSH IS more famous than Neil Young, but it would be interesting to see if there is a way of proving who has more world-wide recognition. I don't want to get into a debate about who is better (from the perspective of opinion) but I would be interested in finding a statistic (or series of) to 'show' who is generally more known.... meh, just thinkin' out loud.
