Saw Bruce last night at a venue near D.C. Set list surprises were downers: "Ghost of Tom Joad," "Dry Lightning," and a not-quite-ready-for-primetime "Wreck on the Highway" on e-piano.
Still, I dug the quiet setting and loved how Bruce tweaked arrangements of old - and newer - songs.
For the second time on the tour, he played "I'm on Fire" on banjo and ended with a cover of Suicide's "Dream Baby Dream" on pump organ. Man, is that last a cool song, haunting and yet uplifting all the same.
The smallish setting, new twists on old songs like "The Promised Land," a couple rarities - it was almost like seeing Bruce for the first time. And top tickets were ... a mere ... $88. |

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to hearing that 'new' cover in 9 days time! |
