Topic: 'Happy' Keith Richards Spotted Out And About Return to archive
15th May 2006 01:04 AM
Daethgod Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has made his first public appearance since his head injury, allaying fears over his health.

The rocker had, according to some reports, suffered brain damage after undergoing two operations on his head following his fall from a coconut tree in Fiji last month.

However, Richards was seen smiling on Thursday when he went sightseeing with his wife and children in Auckland, where he had been hospitalised for treatment.

The group was seen driving round in a Mercedes, before stopping for lunch and browsing in an estate agents window.

Rock and roll!

Keith Richards' kids celebrate dad's recovery
14 May 2006

The relieved children of recuperating rocker Keith Richards marked his discharge from hospital last week with a long lunch and a trip to Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World.

Richards, guitarist for veteran rockers the Rolling Stones, was discharged from Auckland's Ascot Hospital on Thursday morning after an operation on Monday to drain blood from inside his skull.

His upbeat appearance ended days of speculation that he had suffered career-threatening brain damage in his fall from a coconut tree at a Fijian resort last month.

Upon his discharge, Richards was taken to Cotter House, the five-star Remuera lodge where his family - wife Patti Hansen, daughters Angela, Theodora and Alexandra and son Marlon and his wife Lucie - have been staying throughout his medical ordeal. Theodora, 21, and Alexandra, 19, are socialites who have followed their mother Hansen into modelling.

Richards laid low at Cotter House for the rest of Thursday, but in the afternoon his children made the most of good weather and headed out in a Mercedes to take in some of Auckland's sights. First stop was Kelly Tarlton's, where the group stayed for an hour, before heading for a late two-hour lunch at St Heliers' Lava Restaurant, checking out the properties in the window of a real estate agent en route.

Onlookers said the group was smiling and seemed to be in a happy mood.

Marlon, his wife and two of the daughters are believed to have left Cotter House for Auckland airport on Friday. Richards and Hansen are understood to be at the hotel.

Richards was initially discharged from Ascot on May 2, but was readmitted days later after complaining of headaches.

The European leg of the Stones' "Bigger Bang" world tour has been rescheduled to begin in June.

FotiniD So was he or wasn't he with them?
One way or another, the children leaving New Zealand is a very, very good sign.
