Spru This guy tried to get a laugh by taking a couple shots at the greatest band ever which pretty much everyone knows and can relate to. Too bad this was a horrible idea and all this dude did was show what a moron he is. Stick to writing about sports, bud.

pdog The Stones were discussed on Wed. Nights ESPN game between Yanks and BoSox... It was somebody's birthday and Stones came up, positively I might add. I also heard the guys behind me talking about Keith's fall at the Giants game yesterday. I didn't side bust, I was really intrigued to hear what info they had...

Jigsaw Puzzle were espn takin bout keiths fall or the stones in general, its weird but im always surprised to hear entertainement shows talk about them considering they're not so "mainstream" anymore

MidnightRambler Email I sent the idiot:

Subject: Just another complaint about Stones reference
To: [email protected]

Hello Sportswriter guy

I don't know if you've recieved complaints about the comment
you made which i will remind you of here:

"Pop-culture critics reflexively call him baseball's answer to
the Rolling Stones, but that doesn't really do him justice.
Have you heard Keith Richards speak in the past 20 years?
Charlie Watts can barely hit a cymbal; imagine what a slider
would do to him."

Well. Let me preamble this email by saying this won't be a
loud and obnoxious email slamming your comment about the
Stones saying "they're the greatest band in the world" and all
that crap. I'm sure that stuff is annoying and makes you even
wanna blast the Stones MORE when you read stuff like that.

Although I'm not a sports fan (my apologies for not enjoying
what you write about) I will say that your comment was indeed
pretty stupid.

Let me tell you why...

"Pop-culture critics reflexively call him baseball's answer to
the Rolling Stones, but that doesn't really do him justice.
Have you heard Keith Richards speak in the past 20 years?"

Nice try. But not really. Yeah you are right, Keith
Richards' speech has not been elegant as of late--putting it
best but he's not a politician. His job doesn't require him
to do speeches around the country. Does that really affect
how he plays guitar? You know...I really don't think so.
Actually...no not at all. His forte is playing guitar for the
band. It is probably on the same level as saying your ability
to write a Nobel Prize winning column is impossible because "I
mean...c'mon have you seen how Rob Daniels dresses?" You
see..it really does not matter how you dress in order for you
to be a great columnist. It's about your work. I'm sure you
get my point. So to compare Richards to whoever the hell
pitcher you were talking about really was dumb.

You should've said "Have you heard Keith Richards PLAY in the
past 20 years?" that would kinda make more sense.

But even THAT would still have been ignorant because a guy
who's 62 can still play "Jumping Jack Flash" today (2006) as
good as he did when he was 22..or...32..or 42...or 52...

And lastly probably the bigest faux pas you've succeeded at
was saying that "Charlie Watts couldn't even hit a symbol."
SIGH. Whatta shame, Mr. Rob Daniels. Out of all the band
members Charlie is the only who delivers the same punch every
single night and is beautifully consistent in performance. He
is a human metronome that never needs new batteries. "What
would a slider do to him?" What would a slider do to YOU, Mr.
Daniels? Yikes. Sorry I didn't want this to be a bashing
email. I didn't want to play your game.

This is probably where you roll your eyes about how stupid I
sound. But I guess it's fair because I rolled my eyes at your
column.

I'm just saying educate yourself. Buy...or for you because it
doesn't sound like you're a huge fan...RENT some Stones
concert DVDs from the last 10 years and see how dead wrong you
were. That's all I'm saying. You'll see that these aren't
old men who can barely stand up.

But from the looks of it
you'd prolly just echo what you said earlier and not even see
that The Rolling Stones are a working Rock and Roll band that
can give a shit that they're old. In case you couldn't have
guessed...they still WANT to do this. What's "this"? "This"
is touring, making music and playing to their fans. I don't
know how much longer you plan to write for news-record.com but
if you choose to continue writing when you are 62...would it
be fair...or even MAKE SENSE for people to make fun of your
columns (especially if they've never read them) and say you
should retire? What would you say? Maybe..."Fuck you...I'll
do what I want." Yeah...that's the Stones same sentiment.

Oh hey lemme help you out with some research just to prove you
were wrong and I was right...

Bridges To Babylon Live DVD 1998
Four Flicks 2002

Hmm..that should do it...rent or borrow them from anyone you
know who are fans. You'll see that your favorite public
speaker, Keith Richards, can still bang out chords off his
guitar, see that Charlie especially after his cancer scare
last year sounds like thunder on stage and realize that your
comment about Charlie Watts was a little less than blasphemous.

But anyhoo that's that.

Hope you enjoyed the read if you read passed the second
sentence. I must say this was fun to type. I usually never
do this...actually this is my first email I've sent to someone
who's made fun of the Stones...but unfortunately you happen to
say the wrong things to trigger something in me. Oh well.
Good luck with news-record. com.

A Huge Stones Fan,

Justin Sosa
