Lazy Bones Musician tours this summer with Crazy Horse

By PHIL GALLO

Just when it appears every significant rock 'n' roll record under the sun
has made the transfer to CD, something comes out of the vaults to prove that
thinking wrong.

Four Neil Young albums that were never issued on CD will be issued June 24,
about two weeks into Young's two-month-long summer tour with Crazy Horse.
Reprise, where Young has recorded of most of his career, will finally
release "On the Beach" (1974), "American Stars and Bars" (1977), "Hawks &
Doves" (1980) and "Re-Ac-Tor" (1981). The records are significant on several
fronts: "On the Beach" debuted "Walk On" and "For the Turnstiles"; "American
Stars and Bars" presented "Like a Hurricane" for the first time.

Young's two other long-delayed records, "Time Fades Away" and "Journey
Through the Past" were issued quietly in 1999, but those are not easily
found today. The hold-up has long been blamed on Young's desire to see all
CDs issued according to an industry guideline that has never been set.

In the fall, Reprise will issue Young's latest disc, rumored to be titled
"Greendale," which is expected to include a DVD of a film Young shot. For
the record, Young is backed by two members of Crazy Horse, bassist Billy
Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina, and other musicians.

Ah..at the Germain Amphitheater. Nice. Six shows later I'll be seeing him at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Likewise, can't wait!

This cd news is great as On The Beach is my favourite Neil album!

Prodigal Son Prodigal One here, being busy lately has made me an infrequent poster, but this is great news. On the Beach is great; some people don't get it. But it's dark, mysterious and subtle. Sometimes boring, but always intriguing. Gotta love it, almost as dark as Tonight's the Night. American Stars n' Bars is some good garage rock stuff and it has the epochal "Like a Hurricane" which I love. Hawks and Doves is a great folk album discussing Reagan's impending political turmoil that was all the rage to protest over in 1980. Re-ac-tor is a failed attempt at techno though, so I won't get it.
Neil; flaky-yes, but almost always a great artist.

"You are like a hurricane... There's calm in your eye.
And I'm getting blown away/to somewhere deeper where the feeling stays/I wanna love you but I'm getting/Blown away."
