Listening now...The thing is they are ALL so good!
For me it's out of side 1 and 3...
Let It Loose or Tumbling Dice...?
Happy or Rocks Off???
Rip this Joint or Turd on the Run???
Intuitively I would say side 1, but today Loving Cup holds the edge and side 3 takes IT!
What does everyone else think?? |

What side?
I think Disc 1. LOL. |

Perhaps the most underated song on Exile is "Torn and frayed"....to me, it's one of their best.
SDH, do you have boot of 'Short and curlies"? |

I think Loving Cup is on side two of Exile, that's what I think.

Yes I have Short and Curlies and haven't listened to it for a while.
I just might tonight, thanks!
It's always good to dust off a good boot.

Sorry mate, my mistake! I was jammin to it too hard!
Plus I was listening to the CD not the vinyl which is why I made the mistake!
You see if I was listening to vinyl I would not have fucked up!!
Vinyl roools!!
In that case side 1 definitely takes it!
What side you do you prefer then?

On vinyl, I'd say side two (the second half of the first CD) -- those four acoustic songs all hang together, like a mini-concept album. I'm with JB on "Torn and Frayed" -- it's probably my favorite all-time Stones song. |

I need a shot of salvation, baby, once in a while - Side 4
The Stones at Full Throttle - it just doesn't get better than this! |

I agree and disagree. I agree in the fact that it's one of their best - certainly of the tracks on Exile. I have to disagree with it being underrated - especially now after being played twice thus far on the tour, the "above average" fans have a deeper appreciation (remember it debuted in Vancouver, 3-Jun-72).
Perhaps if you're referring to it's rating in the eyes of the Stones, I'd agree with you there. Perhaps the smaller European venues can revive it!

My right eye starting twitching uncontrollably when I tried to pick just one side. I think that means I can't do it.

Theres definitely something for everybody on each side, so its hard to pick just one. But for me it has to be side two, for Torn and Frayed, Black Angel and (especially) Loving Cup. The opener, Sweet Virginia, isnt bad either, and I've lived in Virginia half my life, gotta' love it! But after my fave, Loving Cup, second best is Ventilator Blues, and its on side three. Then side one has Tumbling Dice, Happy is on three and side four is all good too.
For you guys stuck hopelessly in the digital age, heres the original LP listing (from my Japanese remaster CD with all the original inserts, liners, etc., all miniaturized of course).
Side 1
Rocks Off
Ripp This Joint
Hip Shake
Casino Boogie
Tumbling Dice
Side 2
Sweet Virginia
Torn and Frayed
Black Angel
Loving Cup
Side 3
Happy
Turd On the Run
Ventilator Blues
Just Wanna See His Face
Let It Loose
Side 4
All Down The Line
Stop Braking Down
Shine A Light
Soul Survivor
