jfalk68 Do you think music in general was better back when the Stones were new? If not, what bands of today do you think make music of the same quality? If so, what other bands did you listen to when you first got into the Stones? For me, I guess music is kinda like a wine it improves with age. Seems like it usually takes me until about five years after everyone else has stopped listening to a song that I finally get it. I think I just have a hard time dealing with anything new or popular because I have a sentimental attachment to the way it was before and I assume the new stuff is tainted by too much commercialism. Does that make any sense? I feel like bands such as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, etc., have yet to be improved upon.

steel driving hammer I think music in general was better back in the 60's.

Chuck Berry, Fats Domino etc...

I can't listen to the radio today with it's programed drums.

I need some AIR and REAL instruments!

Plug in flush out and fire the fucking feed...

vampire There is no more groups like Stones and Led Zep, i think now its just different.

Last friday i heard the latest Blur album - Think Tank - and I have to addmit i didnt hear something so cool for many and many months. I don't remember which album before this i really enjoyed.

Last times I'm looking/trying to listen different stuff because i can't live without music...

steel driving hammer Well I don't know, there's a nice catchy tune I like w/ a programed dance beat by Aqua called Doctor Jones.

Even downloaded it on Kazaa.

Like Maxlugar once said, "It gets me giddy!"

Where is he btw?

Did you know that Zep has a 3-disc CD set and 2-disc DVD set of their live shows coming out? - http://www.ledzeppelin.com/ - it says something about it here, but I don't know if all the info is up yet. I've never seen them play live, so I'm excited to see it.

Classical music will ALWAYS be around... at least I sure hope it is. There is something fundamental and essential that it contains that should never be taken for granted or lost.

Yes, that's true... however, there is a distinct "feeling" that seems, in hindsight, to be associated with a particular time and/or place that music is created. Some eras of music appeal to some more than others. Most people just seem to "feel" better about music from the late 60s and early 70s. Maybe it's because the music from that time was so much more about itself and about things that needed to be said than it was about the almighty dollar - as it so apparently is now... at least as far as what actually makes it into the mainstream. Not ALL of it, mind you, but way too much of it. J-Lo? I rest my case.

Going back to bands like Zeppelin, I was reading about the Clear Channel radio promotion to win VIP passes to the screening of the Zeppelin DVD at Loews theater in New York. The winner will actually get to party with Led Zeppelin, whatever that entails. I always wondered what goes into those "party-with-the-band" kind of things. I mean, do you actually get to sit and have drinks and talk with these guys? It says that Led Zeppelin is the biggest selling rock group in history. I did not know that.

Cant Catch Me Fleetwood Mac, now that's one band that has gotten better and better, since their 70's, early 80's go-round anyway, principally because they pretty much stopped playing altogether.
