Bullshit! In 1972 Keith was on top of the dead list. He is nowadays more responsable than in the early seventies when he was a walking corpse with no teeth.

yeah? and how many fucking shows did he miss in the decade or more when he was a junkie?

heres a clue - it was slightly less than one.

Bottom line - his body could handle various forms of abuse and high jinks back then. It cant now. But hey, feel free to encourage him to live up to the "Most Elegantly Wasted Human Being" tag that so many people think is more important than anything. Personally, I'd rather he was still around and hopefully playing in ten or twenty years than be a corpse in the next five

Gazza you have the choice of being either or neither!

I didnt say you 'were' a cock, I merely requested that you refrain from 'being' one.

Fortunately, you appear to be winning.

His body could handle it? Are you really so naive? I think he was very lucky in the seventies. In fact it is a miracle he survived. I also think the long-term effects of these 'forms of abuse' are the cause of his problems right now. Not the fact he is living extremely unhealthy (as in the seventies) or the fact that people encourage him to live up tot the Most etcetera.

10th May 2006 05:11 AM
Gazza Yeah, its a 'miracle', but part of that could be down to a good constitution or just knowing his limits. William Burroughs was a heroin user for over 30 years. It can be done, I suppose, but its hardly for everyone. And the fact that he DID survive would suggest his body "could" handle it.

and he's STILL living an 'extremely unhealthy' lifestyle for a man in his 60's with a past like his, so they're both a factor on it catching up with him sooner or later. Theres no question in my mind that Keith is also somewhat trapped by his own image.

there wasnt a show on the 3rd July - there were shows on 3rd June and 2nd July.

I'm presuming they mean the 3rd June show, which is the 4th show of the tour and was one of the shows most at risk. Supposedly it may be rescheduled to 30th June.

jostorm Herr Gazza: do you zink Berlin is zave ?

I don't get it. To me it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to be rescheduling already fixed concerts planned for much later than , let's say, the first 10 or so. I'd hate to be the poor bastard who now has to sit down and replan all the logistics, find new concert stadia dates, cancel existing ones, reschedule transport trucks with equipment and stages, bla bla, what an absolute and utter nightmare.... Or can we presume they always have a plan B up their sleeves???

My personal hunch is that there'll be one of two options for the tour

Either

It starts sometime in June as Keith's prognosis is just for "a few weeks" recuperation as officially stated

OR

his recovery will take several months and the whole tour gets shelved as a result.

As the official line leans towards the first option, it would seem only the shows in June will be affected. How many its too early to say.

Whilst it seems strange that theyre talking about rescheduling shows for mid June when there are already concerts booked, there's an added logistical problem that some of the shows that have been booked at the start of the tour may not be so easily available if they add them at the end of the tour. The stadium in Madrid for example would be needed by Atletico Madrid in September, so it simplyu may be a necessity to reschedule some shows that ARENT taking place in stadiums in June to another part of the tour (as that venue has some flexibility for use) and instead having a show in a football stadium on that date. The stadium in Barcelona isnt used for football but for logistical reasons they might want to keep it to a date close to Madrid so its possible they could reschedule them both for around the same time.

If they were to start the tour in mid June, that means about 6-7 concerts at the start of the tour being postponed. There are still enough gaps in that schedule to fit all of those shows in and finish the tour on the original date. Could mean a few being moved around though. However, as most of the German shows take place in a consecutive run in a spell of about 2 weeks, I would think that if the tour starts in June, they should be OK.

But like I said, its just a personal hunch.

jostorm Well, you know what they say, "better the hunch in the hand than two in the bush"...
I certainly lost my BA flights to Madrid, unless I go to party anyway, which I think i will...Any idea if the easyjet flights are changeable for a fee??

never heard that expression before..are you sure you didnt just make it up to annoy me? ;-)

Low budget airlines tend to have a no refund policy. So, like me, if you've booked with Easyjet and you cancel, you're out of luck. (You could still party in berlin too..lol)

as for changes - according to their site :
How much will it cost?
Each change is subject to a €22.50 fee (a saving of €7.5 over the call centre) plus any increase in flight fare, per passenger per flight. For full details see our carrier's regulations.

I would have thought BA would have been able to change your flight details for an administration fee if it turned out that you still went to any rescheduled shows. Werent you going to Barcelona as well?

jostorm Why on Earth would I ever want to annoy you? After all, and, unlike others, I'm not a cock...
No, I decided against Barcelona, but am definitely hanging out in Madrid for some art, drugs and flamenco (I would have preferred the sex and the Rock'n Roll, but let's not go into that, plus I'm staying at my nephew's and rumours about family members' behaviour tend to fly towards my mum's ear quicker than you could say "Caracas!"....)
I know there's this BA "management fee option", but it asked me at the time of the booking whether I wanted to upgrade my fixed ticket to a more flexible one for the snippet of 469£, so, not being a cock, I didn't click it....
As to the planned Berlin trip, however, there is no way I'm missing THAT party, Stones concert or not !!! Plus, there's this other fantastic group playing, called "GATTS", ever heard of them???
10th May 2006 07:20 AM
Gazza never heard of them. I just hope its not German for 'cock'.
10th May 2006 07:32 AM
glencar I hope this doesn't affect the Twick show! I almost made plans for the first Paree show so I'm glad I didn't.
