I know they never did but did Mick Taylor ever do it live?
Keith?
Mick?
Ronnie?
Paul McCartney?
We all know Alvin Youngblood Heart did a chilling version of it but no Stones members eh? |

My understanding was that during the Toronto rehearsals for "Licks" this was attempted but nothing came of it.... |

Mick Taylor did it live as a regular part of the set in his 1990 tour with Carla Olson. The live album, which sometimes is called Live and sometimes Too Hot For Snakes, has a great version.

Ah, so there are more versions of it?
Been in love w/ this song lately.
Maybe someone should put together a tree w/ nothing but the Stones song Sway w/ diff artists.
I'll provide 50 blanks..............................or more. |

Alejandro Escovedo does a great version of Sway.
He's also covered Evening Gown. |

Don't wanna hear this one attempted by latter-day Stones. Ronnie would crap all over the solo, and Keith probably couldn't play that many chords. (As with the "Brown Sugar" riff, Mick wrote too many!)
All we'd hear is Chuck. And then you'd all blame Chuck.

isnt this one of the tracks that Jeith had nothingto do with..? I doubt he would ever play it if that is the case...
it is an absolutely wonderful song.
_____
the one from the "never been played live" file that I really want to hear them break out is Slave. I know they won't pay Sonny enough to have him tour with them for the solos, but Bobby could handle the sax parts...

They should play 'Sway' live. The guitar part is easy, Jagger played it on the studio version, he'd easily be able to play it live. It's the solo that is the hard part.
Keith sings back up vocals on the studio version. |

I think it's all MT on the SF version - don't think MJ played guitar on that one.
As to them doing this live - not a chance. Same with Slave - it came off terrible during rehearsal attempts in 2002 (Four Flicks video proves that out).
The MT '90 version is sublime - far surpasses the Stones version, IMO (heresy, I know...) |

You... need two guitars (to play that song) , 'cause you need one guitar in open tuning to play the dah-dum-dah-da. In fact it was Mick Jagger that played rhythm guitar on that track.
- Mick Taylor, 1995
On Sway I used the Les Paul; Keith doesn't play on that track. Mick Jagger's playing rhythm guitar... (I played the slide part and the solo) at the same time. I put the slide on my little finger so it would still leave the other 3 fingers free to play like they would regularly, and I switched from one to the other. That was played in regular tuning.
- Mick Taylor, 1979

It was rehearsed 8th August. Shidoobee also claims it was rehearsed on the 6th, as well.
