Topic: My band's farewell concert... (NSC) Return to archive

Above: The Savage Young Xyzzy, bassist/vocalist for The Thames, prepares to launch into another tune.

So my band, The Thames, played its farewell concert tonight... I think it's offical that we're gonna break up after high school just because of the distances due to the different colleges we're going to.

We had a final set tonight and really gave it our all. I was pretty exhausted beforehand so some of it was a little sloppy but overall we rocked pretty hard, mixing originals and covers with crowd-pleasing ease. For a band that started off as a Pink Floyd cover band, we rocked pretty hard.

The set was:
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-2)/In The Flesh?
(I Know) It Just Can't Be*
Whatever Rocks You*
It Ain't Me, Babe
Tainted Love
All Along The Watchtower
Fire
Don't Tell Me That*
Money
Spiral Staircase*
Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End

ENCORE:
Layla

* - originals. I wrote "Whatever Rocks You" and co-wrote "(I Know) It Just Can't Be".

It's been wild being in a band. I really want to keep it up... I also see how it's incredible how the Stones have been going for forty years. Rocking and rolling in some form is an experience everyone needs to have before they die. It's just so... worth it.

Why did you break up, why did you stop, so premature?!?!?! WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

I'm working with the idea of having a classic rock band, and when I say CLASSIC ROCK, I MEAN CLASSICAL TO DEATH!

But why man, why? Cheer up!!!! What the fuck happened?

Xyzzy! Keep your dream alive!!! Don't EVER lose your passion...

You've made such an accomplishment for yourself that others could only hope for. By putting your education as a priority for yourself, (and your band mates doing the same as well...) shows the utmost respect for everyone involved. You will have plenty of time to pick-up where you left off.

I wish you well!!!
(...and I adore that picture )

Angiegirl Maybe you'll be able to find some new soulmates in college to form a new generation band. Don't despair Xyzzy! Life's just getting more interesting for you, going to college and all. Good luck (and cool picture too)!
