mac_daddy
no way.

time is on my side In an oversaturated market with acts such U2, McCartney, Springsteen going to many of the same cities and, in some cases at about the same time, these prices seem ridiculously overpriced and unrealistic. None of the above acts came anywhere near charging such prices. While it's true the Stones command top dollar, I just don't see charging these kind of prices. Is that just me or are the times a changin???

marko But remember,we had these rumours when licks tour started.
BUT if this is the price,i won´t see any show.

Gazza I think (and hope) that this is another method of pre-tour 'misinformation' that we got for the last tour

Three years ago there were reports (from reliable sources such as Bjornulf at IORR and others) that tickets for theatre shows were going to be up to about $800, and for arena shows as high as (I think) $500 or so.

In the end, whilst they were undeniably over-priced, they werent as horrific as some had originally speculated. And the theatre shows were, of course, MORE than reasonably priced.

Sounds like a game of kidology to get people into accepting the ticket prices when announced as 'not being too high'.

If these prices are correct, and with an already saturated market where McCartney and U2 have already sold their tickets, they will drown in their own greed, and will deserve to. Plus if their club shows are $1000 a ticket as rumoured, they'll end up playing to movie stars and minor celebs who barely know the songs.

Moonisup the stones have some serious concurrention this time, u2 and macca on tour, they can't do just the greatest hits shit, and ask $ 300 for an arena ticket, that would be stupid. But, we'll see in a few weeks we know the prices
May 5th, 2005 05:24 AM
FotiniD If you ask me, even $ 100 is overpriced for a gig ticket, not to mention those sky high $ 600-900. And I think the reason they can ask for such prices and get away with it, is cause they *know* people will buy the tickets no matter what.

No matter how crazy I am for a Stones gig (oh, and I am), I wouldn't like to be considered a sucker and paying like a month's wages for just a couple of hours. It also puzzles me that prices are always much higher in the States rather than Europe.

If it was the final Stones gig, then maybe I could understand the overpricing. But this has been going on for some years now. I don't get the greed.
May 5th, 2005 05:32 AM
Gazza it's the stupidity and gullibility I don't 'get' as much as the greed, myself

are people THAT desperate for a couple of hour's entertainment from a band theyve undoubtedly seen so many times that they're prepared to pay around $500 a ticket (and often, more?)

Lunacy.
May 5th, 2005 07:01 AM
Gazza Doug did clarify on a post on IORR that the '$1000-a-ticket for club shows' post he made referred to the club shows held in casinos, and not the 'regular' theatre gigs.

Still to early to speculate on theatre show ticket prices, I think.

Voodoo Scrounge I think the Stones can and will get away with high ticket prices on the next tour. The older they get, the more chance there is that this will be their last tour. So people want to see them.
What with Charlies cancer scare and now rumours of Bill Wyman hanging around the studio.
Dare I say it? Could the stones be thinking of calling it a day.
Its not like they need the money. People their age always want to settle down and retire with the wife and Grandchildren. I know the stones arent your usual over 60s but they have been doing it all of their life!

Face it guys. It could be the last time they tour. Hence inflated ticket prices.

So, that would explain last tour's crazy prices? And the tour before that? And before that? And...

You get the picture.

what Fotini said

the ONLY reason is the fact that theyre greedy bastards who dont live in the real world
May 5th, 2005 08:51 AM
gimmekeef If as rumored they call this a Farewell Tour the prices will be the highest ever for any act anytime. How high we'll know next week. They're the greatest rock band of all time but true mercenaries who have little regard for their die hard blue collar fans. But I'll be there anyway cause its still The Greatest Show On Earth!
May 5th, 2005 08:57 AM
charlotte no fucking way I will pay those prices, have seen them too many times in the States, UK, and Europe too jeopardize loved ones Christmas...for Christ's sake...I too am a civil servant, I teach college...surely someone will tell them the market place cannot take steep ticket prices with everything else going on...I can handle U2 prices...
May 5th, 2005 09:05 AM
J.J.Flash I just bloody hope when they arrange the South American leg, at least for Brazil and Argetina they arrange ONLY huge Stadiums. Simple reason - the cheaper it is, easier it gets to fill it. Now, if the management attempts to arrange an assembled-for-granny venue, separating the field in rows, sections, fancy expensive seats for famous stupid acts....excuse me but it won't work.

Get rid of seats.....this is a ROck'n'Roll show....if you can't take being stood.....go watch Julio Iglesias, Luis Miguel, Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra (RIP).......

Let the stalls for this purpose.

charlotte Since Mick studied at London School of Economics maybe reason will prevail!!! But we shall see shortly!

Bullshit! Whether it's their first or last tour, most people can't afford or won't budget for those prices.

Fuck them!!!

May 5th, 2005 09:53 AM
gimmekeef This sure doesnt auger well for sales...if us die hards are ticked off the average Joe will just laugh and stay home....I truly believe they will play the Farewell Card to max this out..sad and I hope I'm wrong but.......

the problem is that these shows are not geared towards rock n roll and/or youth anymore.

the Stones' audience is ageing and with the ticket prices as they are, they're not going to attract new, younger audiences.

Therefore you get a mostly older crowd spending shitloads of cash who prefer to sit

It makes for shitty audiences but (in most markets) the Stones have basically ended up with the type of crowd their ticket prices deserve...ie, "Vegas in stadiums".

charlotte very true Gazza, at the NS show in Charlotte, those that were standing up got peppered from those who were sitting down the entire show(vast majority), those that were standing shouted back (angrily) "I payed fucking $$$ for this concert and I am going to do whatever I want"...sigh...is this what stones concerts have come too???? class warfare??

Gazza I fucking hope so

Its the only way I'll get to the front row!

Up against the wall, motherfuckers!
May 5th, 2005 10:50 AM
Voodoo Scrounge I think you all have very valid points, but the fact remains that people always have paid lots to see the stones and we all know that they will sell out everywhere on their next tour. Its just going to happen.
People want to see the stones. They always will, so the tickets will be pricey.
I cant understand why somebody who has seen the stones loads of times before is complaining about the prices of tickets. Ever since steel wheels the tickets have been far more expensive than those of other bands at the time.
And ID bet that all of the people complaining about the prices will go and see them at some stage of the next tour.

Interesting.

At Sky Dome 2002 in Toronto, I had 11th row floor seats but I followed the lead from those around me and I STOOD through the whole show. And dare I say we danced. It was a great evening with smiles all around with no complaints coming from behind. Different town... different fans?

GimmeExile $450 will get me 1 Stones concert...or 5 Bruce Springsteen shows...or 10 Black Crowes shows. Hmmm. If these rumors are true, I guess I'll be making different plans this fall.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'll pay whatever they want me to, like I've always done.
