Soldatti Better Than Suicide

New York City, May 2, 2005) -- When asked recently about the Stones' plans for 2005, Keith quipped, "Another Rolling Stones album! Another monster tour! Same old story, pal. It's better than suicide, right?"

We couldn't agree more. And while the Stones organization's official line at this point is "no comment," it's clear the Stones will be back on the road soon, in support of a new album. Their travel schedule will probably resemble their time-tested itineraries of the past. That is to say, a launch in the northeast during late summer, before heading west for autumn. Then, after conquering North America, 2006 might find them in South America, Asia, and Europe -- you know the drill by now.

As the Stones' promoters continue to negotiate with various venues (stadiums and arenas, as well as theaters), rumors have spread like wildfire throughout America and the world as to where and when some of the concerts will take place. The Boston media is reporting that the Stones have been cleared to play Fenway Park at the end of August, possibly as the tour's debut. Other rumors are coming from our own backyard (Madison Square Garden in September?) and from as far way as Tel Aviv (Hayarkon Park in '06?) and London (the newly renovated Wembley Stadium?). Intriguing venues like the Hollywood Bowl, Atlantic City's Borgata Casino, New York's Beacon Theater, and San Francisco's Fillmore are also being bandied about.

But none of these rumors are being circulated or officially substantiated by people on the Stones end. They're leaking strictly from the local venues and municipalities that have had discussions with the Stones' promoters.

When enough dates are contractually nailed down, an official announcement of the tour will come from the Stones, possibly this month. But, until then, this web site will avoid conjecture and can't reveal anything told to us off the record. The point is, every fan will get the facts soon enough.

It's good to know, however, that the Stones have been keeping their chops together. They've been recording in France these last few months (mostly at Mick's house in the Loire Valley) and a couple of them have performed together onstage recently. On March 13, Ronnie teamed up with his ex-Faces mates, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones, for a show at the Drury Lane Theatre Royal in London. (Also in the band were Stones back-ups, Daryl Jones and Bernard Fowler. The show was billed as "Ronnie Wood and Fiends" -- and no, that's not a typo.) They performed a slew of Ronnie's solo numbers, like "Mystifies Me" and "Breathe On Me," as well as some Faces classics like "Ooh La La" and "Stay With Me." The Stones' catalog was represented by "Black Limousine" and "Dance," the latter of which featured a surprise guest vocalist. As you can imagine, the crowd of 1,500 went absolutely bonkers when a bloke named Mick Jagger emerged from the wings to take center stage. He dazzled the crowd with his patented Jagger swagger, while Woody got through the whole show without a single cigarette or swig of booze. Yes, folks, these boys are itchin' and ready to go!

Meanwhile, as we await official word on the Stones' future, let's pause to reflect on their past. It's hard to believe that three decades have passed (May 1, 1975) since Ronnie made his debut with the Stones -- playing "Brown Sugar" on the back of a truck on New York's Fifth Avenue. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of that raucous event, Ronnie has put paintbrush to canvas and come up with "Flat Bed Truck," shown below. He's selling 290 limited-edition screenprints of it, each of which he numbered and hand-signed. It's 30 inches by 36 inches, printed on Somerset textured paper, and is priced at $2,450 (plus shipping). If you'd like to own it (or have any questions about it), send us an e-mail at Beggars Banquet Online and we'll get you rolling.

While you're mulling it over, you can listen to the Stones' historic performance from that flat bed truck, by clicking here .

Stay tuned to Beggars Banquet Online for further developments.

Dan Hollywood Palladium - not sure how it would be for a Stones show, but it used to be almost like a 2nd home. Havent been there in 10 years though, cant really say I ever want to go back no matter who is playing.
