Some Guy Is there a conspiracy to keep gas high or is the world just running out?

I've wondered that myself.

nankerphelge It is a very complex issue.

Part of it is supply of crude, which OPEC and other oil-producing countries control.

Part of it is demand of crude, which continues to increase (especially in China)

Part of it is refinery capacity in the US -- which is a politically charged topic in itself

Still, gas in the US is comparatively cheaper than elsewhere.

AND, people pay up to $2 for a 12 oz bottle of water.
Much more per gallon than gas!!

Saint Sway its nuts! Gas prices are already higher than Woody in todays header pic!

monkey_man China and India's middle classes are booming and can afford to buy cars instead of bicycles. Worldwide demand is soaring for a resource that is of a finite supply. The era of gas under $2 a gallon is gone.

I agree with that.

Some Guy $3.05 a gallon today for me.

Lethargy It'll go higher and higher until the out of control American environmentalists (ok, not just American, but primarily American) realize that their literally endless regulations are increasing the profits of the very industries that they live every day to destroy.

Hello?! No refinery built in 30 years due to environmental regulations! Global increases in demand! Way to go, environmentalists. And amazingly, the same environmentalist Senators in America that caused this problem have the gall to ask oil companies "Why haven't you built any refineries?"

Ahh, the endless gullibility and stupidity of progressives / socialists / democrats / leftists / (insert your own adjective here). It never ceases to amaze.

Complain all you want, I spend more and pay a higher per gallon price than any of you in the USA, and you don't hear me complaining about the price.
My complaint is that no real work has been done to create new industries to remove us from oil.
Canadas sand oil reserve is said to be the largest reserve in the world. At the rate the US currently consumes, it would last 40 years, if it was our only source of oil..
Bio- diesel could decrease green house gasses immensely. What is wrong with us? There's money to be made and good can be done at the same time.
We're just retarded! Stoopid! Idiots!
Ethanol is an option, however it is potentially very toxic, so I'm sure that's what we'll cose!
Fucknutz!!! We're stoopid idiot consumers.

Pdog you must be getting crushed by the prices of gas here in the city. Does Yellow own or plan to buy any hybrids?

I work for Luxor... There's a few Ford hybrid Taxis, been on the streets for a few years. Those London cabs are diesel, and could be easily converted to bio. I've got a friend who has done a half dozen diesel conversions himself the past two years. If one guy can do that, think how easy our nation could.
BTW, the hybrids are good on case big time. I'm spending at least $40 a night upwards to $60 on gas. We're talking thousands a year I'm losing in income.
We're thinknig of buying a hybrid as a second car, even before gas got really high, we talked about it. We just don't want to be smug about it. I consider an act like that patriotic. I wish everyone would.
If george bush had said at ground zero, with his bullhorn deafening the retired firefighter, we need all Americans to sacrafice now. We will no longer be paying Saudi Arabia to kill us like this. americans would've done anything. He had his chance and blew it. Even the Bush Geeks would've gone hybrid, bio-diesel or whatever. Instead, we attacked Iraq. Money that could've been spent on changing american industry and improving our national security and protecting our borders. That's why I say, were idiots. Everyone needs to blame someone, no one want to blame themselves, let alone accept some personal sacrafices and change. It's much easier to pay over $3 a gallon and bitch about envoirmentalists or Bush/Cheney oil interests.
Fucking retards!

You guys should get on a waiting list for a hybrid now. The dealerships offer fully refundable deposits to put your name on the waiting list. I got a Prius in Nov after putting my name on the waiting list in Aug. The tax credit is even better for the '06 Prius. . . $3000. I get 35 + mpg here in the city. . .hills and all. Once I go on the freeway the mileage gets much closer to 50. Also the Prius is a lot roomier and cheaper than the Honda equivalent. BTW, Willie Nelson has started a chain of bio-diesel gas stations in the southern states geared towards truckers.

Yeah, Hybrids are great. Spend more extra money up front than you'll ever save with gas - even with current gas prices and pathetic gov't subsidies - yet you can feel in your ignorant heart that you're saving money.

I laugh at all Hybrid drivers.

Laugh all you want jackass. The Prius is a whopping 26K oooooooo. . . that's big money!(Maybe it is at your trailer park!) The true savings from the hybrid is in the amount of emissions coming out of the tailpipe. You can always buy a Hummer and get a 10K subsidy from the gov't if you say it's for business. Then you and your asthma filled laugh can choke in your rightousness as you drive your home from park to park.

rasputin56 When do I get my $100?

You don't think Jabba got to look like this eating just nachos, do you?

27th April 2006 09:26 PM
rasputin56 Of course it's laughable. Just another fiscally responsible move by the Republicans to bribe the masses. As long as these people are raking in more money than God on a daily basis, there will not be any serious movement by either party (but moreso the one that's currently in power with two oil men at the head of it) to change to alternative energy.
28th April 2006 04:23 AM
Staffan Thank you Pdog for taking the time to put forward your GREAT opinions in this...

Gas prices are WAY higher in Scandinavia than they are in the US. And we don't earn more money than what you do over there. So stop bitching!

But the thing is, as you say, the money NEEDS to be used to finance new industries that remove us from oil. And also I'd like to see that the governments put money into development of hybrid cars, so that they become less expensive. So that everyone can buy them.

But in the end, we need to realize that it is our way of living that has to be changed.

Use bicycles!
28th April 2006 07:25 AM
marko Well said Staffan!
In Finland we pay now for gas 1.33-1.38e/Litre
Diesel is around 1 euro.

Ten Thousand Motels Qatar: Price of oil would drop $15 if politicians shut up

SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM
Thursday, April 27, 2006

ABU DHABI — Qatar plans to invest $5 billion through 2010 in an attempt to increase the production of crude oil.
Qatari Energy Minister Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah said the price of oil would drop by $15 should politicians end their expressions of concern over a halt in supplies.
Al Attiyah said the record oil prices of more than $75 per barrel was the result of fears and speculation within the market.

Qatar intends to allocate $5 billion over the next five years to boost oil production capacity to 1.1 million barrels per day.

Current production was reported at 850,000 barrels per day.

"We are putting a lot of effort and investment into increasing our oil output," Al Attiyah said on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum in Doha on April 23.
