THE international draw-card of Mercedes Australian Fashion Week has pulled-out just days before the start of the event.

Model Elizabeth Jagger, daughter of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall, has cancelled her trip to Sydney where she was to have headlined several shows as a special guest.

The Daily and Sunday Telegraphs fashion editor Melissa Hoyer said Jagger would not be taking part as she was unwell.

"The one shining light, the beacon that was going to save fashion week, Elizabeth Jagger, has cancelled her appearance," Hoyer told news.com.au.

"There was quite a vibe that she was coming, everyone was excited," she said.

The cancellation is another blow to Fashion Week, which has already had a number of top designers, including Collette Dinnigan and Charlie Brown, choosing not to show this year.

"Unfortunately Fashion Week has already had a lot of really strong press this year because people are questioning the relevance of the event and a blow like this just makes it seem even more insignificant, its a real shame," Hoyer said.

Publicists confirmed the news late this afternoon.

We are naturally disappointed however we believe the illness is genuine and obviously consider it a reasonable excuse said work: models Director, Helena Vitolins in a press release today.

They said that models Maggie Rizer and Missy Rayder would replace Jagger for the event.

Mercedes Australian Fashion Week runs from May 6-9.
