TWENTY-two early 1960s Rolling Stones contracts, including one revealing that they were paid just £50 for their Horsham show in 1963, were sold for £3,840 at Christie's in London.
Before the auction (April 26), Christie's forecast that the contracts would sell for between £1,500 and £2,000.
They were bought by a mystery bidder.
The Rolling Stones played at St Leonard's Hall in Cambridge Road, Horsham, on August 3, 1963, before they became rich and famous.
When they achieved their major breakthrough the following year, in 1964, with their first number one hits, It's All Over Now and Little Red Rooster, their charges increased for live appearances.
A preview of the auction on wscountytimes.co.uk prompted a number of people to come forward with recollections of the concert in Horsham.

"Mystery bidder." Hmmm ... Maybe the same mystery bidder who bought those early tapes of Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys? |
