Topic: Kerrang's 100 Best Gigs of All Time ( as of 1998) Return to archive Page: 1 2
27th April 2006 01:54 PM
Dan The list is from 1998. I found it on the resurrected Metal Sludge board. I always liked to read their concert reviews though magazines have become obsolete in the last ten years. Seen 3 of the gigs listed, many more of the tours and a lot of the bands too as well as boots. The list is kinda bogus though I might have a hard time coming up with my own list of the top 100. Discuss.

I saw them at least once. Don't remember it which in reality means it couldn't have been that bad.

Anybody going to the Roxy early on that particular night could have drawn a conclusion on the Black Crowes without the benefit or hinderance of any sort of hype because that didn't start til at least the summer from what I remember when they got on the Aerosmith and Heart tours.

Back then their target audience was the hard rock/metal crowd, not whats left of the Deadheads/Phisheads.

jb Any rock concert list that does not have the Stones on it, seems quite out of place here. To me, even in their declining state, they put on a better concert than any of the wankers listed in said article.
27th April 2006 03:23 PM
sirmoonie Yeah, no Stones? No Who? That list is bougacious on its face.

Reptile This list Crap-A-La-Crème. No Stones concerts in your list makes it a poo list.

Even though its geared toward hard rock heavy metal, I would have to agree. There would be at least 3 or 4 Stones gigs in my own top 100.
27th April 2006 03:39 PM
tumbling dice They must be jocking!Where´s Stones MSG 1969,all the 72 tour and Hampton 81 ?
27th April 2006 03:42 PM
Reptile No kidding.. Star Trek has more credibility then this list. Where is the, musically not so great, but nevertheless legendary Hyde Park concert?
27th April 2006 03:45 PM
jb Lets start with Brussels 73 as the greatest concert of all time..and then go from there....MSG72, MSG69,etc...

I think most of these were culled from reviews in Kerrang magazine and are gigs the writers actually attended, hence no Woodstock, Monterey Pop etc.

My own personal #1 is Rammstein at the Palace in 1998 but I would have a hard time ranking them after that. Been to at least 500 gigs. I do LOVE talking about concerts even if I hardly drag my lazy ass out anymore.
27th April 2006 03:46 PM
Saint Sway the list is an absolute joke. Theres no cred to it at all. It was made totally at random with no rhyme or reason.

granted, 90% of these bands listed I dont know squat about, but of the half dozen bands on here that I actually like, I can, with absolute conviction, state that the shows listed are just random shows and are NOWHERE near the best that these bands have played.

attending a show does not vault it into the top 100 ranking.

anyone that considers themselves a serious music journalist - and I'm not saying that writers at Kerang are - would never make a top 100 list without including certain seminal and monumental shows, regardless if they were at them or not.

thus, this list is just a meaningless, random list made by a bunch of metal wankers of the coolest shows their mothers dropped them off at and they were able to sneak in a flask of their dads Dewars to.

I see Bon Jovi made the list ..... many times !

They should have definitely included the 1984 and 1988 Monsters Of Rock (UK) gigs as well as a few Reading Fests.

Most of my favorite concert experiences were quite meaningless and random.
27th April 2006 04:04 PM
time is on my side Noticed the same bands keep reoccurring on the list. So in a way, you can call it the reoccurring list. Metallica appears no less than 5 times & Bon Jovi appears not once but twice.

Correction: Bon Jovi actually appears three times
