Death to the Sixties
By James Reed, Globe Staff | April 22, 2005
Just as it took ''Who's the Boss?" to illustrate the genius of Katherine Helmond (as Mona), it took ''Gimme Shelter" to make us understand the brilliance of the Rolling Stones. Sure, we were fans before we saw the 1970 documentary, but seeing Mick Jagger (left, during the film) prance around in spandex with a long scarf was an eye-opener. The film, by Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin, chronicles the Stones' infamous 1969 concert that turned deadly at Altamont Speedway in California. Tonight, the Harvard Film Archive launches its Death of the Sixties film series with a screening of ''Gimme Shelter" at 7. It's a Jagger-palooza as the HFA then screens ''Performance" at 9 p.m. The series, which runs through Sunday, features films that show how the '60s generation was doomed from the get-go. Other screenings include ''Maidstone" and ''Coming Apart" tomorrow, and ''Zabriskie Point" and ''The Last Movie" on Sunday. If seeing Mick in all this vampy glory doesn't do it for you, Tina Turner (as one of the opening acts) coyly caressing her microphone surely will. $8, $6 for students, seniors, and Harvard faculty and staff. 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 617-495-4700.

Keefness |
The thing is, if the '60's weren't as they were, then nothing would be as it is. Not much sense in speculating what might have been, that's just or becomes an infinite bunch of 'stuff'.
We are where we are & it's either a direct or indirect result of "The '60's", depending on if you were alive then or have just heard about how times were then.
Speculation is a waste of time & politics is poop. |

Speculation is a waste of time & politics is poop (even if it's dried up it'll still stick to the bottom of your shoes & you'll have to scrape it off before you come in the house
after workin' all day if you step in it)*.
Since when has Ms Helmond, "Who's The Boss", a teenage demographic sit-com of the '80's, or commercial TV for that matter been compared to Jagger circa '69 OR The Rolling Stones in general?
Orples to Assages I say.
*I know, I know..don't not ever use a double negative & never use a preposition to end a sentence with. There's a better and more right way to write with.
(Had to post this in 2 parts due two Tecknickal difficultees. Heh.) |
