Ten Thousand Motels AC/DC Album To Be Double?

AC/DC leaders Angus and Malcolm Young have been working on the band's new record for quite a while, and now we know why — it might be a double album! - reports Launch Radio Networks. Singer Brian Johnson said the Youngs are "ensconced" in a U.K. studio, and that they just keep writing new material. "I think, and I might be speaking out of turn, but I think they're doing a double, with the amount of songs — I've been over a couple of times with the boys and added ideas on 46 tunes we had, and they've been working since then!"

Johnson isn't sure whether the album will come out this year or next, but he did say the band will tour when it comes out.

In related news, a new AC/DC DVD and book, entitled "Inside AC/DC", is scheduled for release on May 9. The disc, which will only play on European Region 2 or multi-region DVD players, features rare archive footage and commentary from renowned critics

Soldatti I love the Stones doing the same.
April 13th, 2005 12:24 AM
Happy Motherfucker!! With all the material that The Stones have in the can, it's certainly quite possible that we may be getting a double album for the boys.

I'd rather have 12 killer songs than double album's worth of Don't Stop. Keep the length in 45 minutes, I say.

J.J.Flash Great news! Good to know.

It could be as good as Ballbreaker.
April 13th, 2005 09:57 AM
HomerJRichards For the most part i think Ball Breaker was awful. There are a few gems in there like Hail Caesar & Boogeyman for example.

Stiff Upper Lip is a much better album. Brian's singing sounds so much better on SUL compared to BB. Can't stand still is a great foot stomper - maybe the closest thing they've got to their early classic hits in a long time. I would love for them to bring out an album of similar style and quality.

Ten Thousand Motels If I were an intelligent man I think I could make a case for ac/dc being the greatest rock n roll band in the world.
April 13th, 2005 10:35 AM
nankerphelge They are definitely purists -- I can see why some people don't care for them -- to the uninitiated, their sound doesn't change a whole lot.

However, for us trained professionals, they just plain rock!

A double release would be good as long as there are no half-assed tunes. The Youngs ensconced in a studio -- makes my day just hearing it!
April 13th, 2005 10:46 AM
HomerJRichards I think it can definitely be argued that they are one of the greatest rock bands. I wish Angus & Malcolm would let Brian have some input though. They've written all the lyrics for the last couple of albums.
April 13th, 2005 10:55 AM
nankerphelge I thought that Brian was writing for this release -- that was the rumor back in the fall on some of the AC/DC sites.
April 13th, 2005 11:28 AM
Pierre 1/ Double album, I don't think so. Forget it
2/ Yes, Brian write the lyrics again
3/ Next album, january 2006

Soldatti Stiff Upper Lip is a great album, much better than Ballbreaker. I have great hopes for the next album.
April 13th, 2005 11:34 PM

J.J.Flash Funny enough, I have Stiff Uper Lip but prefer Ballbreaker (which I still don't have).
April 14th, 2005 10:22 PM
Soldatti I got the new DVD today, a great weekend comming.

padre I really hope they let Brian do some writing this time. It can't be worse than the Young brothers' lyrics. I just listened SUL through yesterday. The riffs still kick ass and the production is great, but goddamn those lyrics:

CAN'T STOP ROCK'N'ROLL
Don't you give me no line
Better run if you can
Just like a thorn in the side
So don't give me no

Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no lies

You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll

Don't you play me no jive
A bit of fun on the side
Too much crap make you blind
So don't give me no

Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no whine

You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
I said, ah ah ah
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah

You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
Listen up....
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
I said you can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' Roll
Don't you give me no line
Better run if you can
Just like a thorn in the side
So don't give me no

Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no lies

You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll

Don't you play me no jive
A bit of fun on the side
Too much crap make you blind
So don't give me no

Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no
Don't you give me no whine

You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
I said, ah ah ah
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah

You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
Listen up....
Ah ah ah
Ah ah ah
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' roll
I said you can't stop rock 'n' roll
You can't stop rock 'n' Roll

Suddenly You Got Me Rocking sounds like poetry...and btw, it would be a proper song for AC/DC to cover!!
April 15th, 2005 02:51 AM
Ten Thousand Motels Yeah but that's only one song. AC/DC wrote some great lyrics. Like.....Love at First Feel. In Rock n roll sometimes less is more.
April 15th, 2005 03:04 AM
padre Bon Scott wrote LOADS of excellent lyrics. I think he continued the Chuck Berryish storytelling tradition very well. There's always the story.
What I'm talking about is the Young brothers' lyrics. You can really take any song from the last two albums, and you understand why Angus still wears that school uniform.

CAN'T STAND STILL (from SUL)
When i see a pretty woman
You know it gives me a thrill
And she's a tailor made to order
You know i can't stand still
And you won't need a doctor
'cause it'll cure all ills

And when i hear a noisy party
You know it gives me a chill
It gets me rockin' and a rollin'
And i can't stand still
From morning 'till midnight
You know i can't stand still

You know i can't stand still
I can't stand still
You know i can't stand still
I can't stand still
From morning 'till midnight
You know i can't stand still, oh yeah

When it comes to sippin' honey
You know i drink my fill
And i'll be dancin' on the water
You know i can't stand still
From morning 'till midnight
You know i can't stand still, oh yeah

You know i can't stand still
I can't stand still
I can't stand still
You know i can't stand still
From morning 'till midnight
You know i can't stand still

You know i can't stand still
I can't stand still
Baby i can't stand still
I just can't stand still
From morning 'till midnight
You know i can't
You know i can't stand still

HomerJRichards Padre hit the nail on the head, the early AC/DC songs are great not only because of the musci but Bon's lyrics were stories - many of them based on real events - eg Whole Lotta Rosie, Crabsody in blue, Highway to Hell.

The Young bros write the worst corny lyrics - they've always reminded me of those dirty limmericks kids used to say in the playgrounds at school -"there was a man from Nantucket.....etc" There's is a theory that some of the songs on Back in Black were co-written with Bon before he died. It's interesting when you listen to the lyrics on that album - it does seem as if two different people have written the songs. Some of the tracks are typical of the "dirty limmerick" style eg "she was a fast machine she kept her motor clean",whereas others are more like the type of lyrics typical of Bon eg "shoot to thrill, too many women too many thrills".

April 23rd, 2005 11:37 PM
rogerriffin one of best lyrics:

DIRTY DEEDS DONE DIRT CHEAP
(Young - Young - Scott)

If you're havin' trouble with the high school head
He's givin' you the blues
You wanna graduate but not in his bed
Here's what you gotta do
Pick up the phone, I'm always home
Call me any time
Just ring 36 24 36 hey
I lead a life of crime

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)

You got problems in your life of love
You got a broken heart
He's double dealin' with your best friend
That's when the teardrops star fella
Pick up the phone, I'm here alone
Or make a social call
Come right in, forget 'bout him
We'll have ourselves a ball hey

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
Yeahhh

If you got a lady and you want her gone
But you ain't got the guts
She keeps naggin' at you night and day
Enough to drive you nuts
Pick up the phone, leave her alone
It's time you made a stand
For a fee, I'm happy to be
Your back door man hey

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap) yeah
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)
(Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap)

Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT
(Done dirt cheap)
Neck ties, contracts, high voltage
(Done dirt cheap)

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, do anything you want me to
Done dirt cheap
Dirty deeds, dirty deeds, dirty deeds,
Done dirt cheap, ahhhhh
