I agree. '71 was probably the best ever. |

Everyone knows rock n' roll attained perfection in 1974. It's a scientific fact - Homer Simpson |

I'm not sure Homer was right about that one.

Gotta agree with you Soldatti! If ya wanna leave the Beatles out - go for '71.
But 1969 was a really good year: Stones,Who with Tommy, Bob Marley , Led Zepplin, Dylan-Nashville Skylines, CCR, CSNand Y, Johnny Cash-San Quentin, the Band, etc. etc. |

Great years, but that whole 1967-75 era is pretty much unparalelled for creativity and quality. |

Looks like its a mandate. 1971 blows doors on all other years.
Holy Judas, rock fans. Sticky Fingers, Who's Next, Muswell Hillbillies - what were the pubjacks pouring in London that year?
|

Jumping Jack |
Based on live performances, not LP releases, I would say 1975 based on major Stones, Who, Zep, Skynyrd tours among many others.
Of course, it could be argued that the best year in RnR was when the Beatles broke up in 1970. |

Haha, thats what I was thinking earlier, though thechnically they broke up in 1969, they just kept it together till '70 for financial reasons with one last album to release and all. |

'71 is the best because of 'Who's Next' and 'Sticky Fingers' (as well as some of the others listed).
An underrated year is 1987:
'Joshua Tree' U2
'Appetite for Destruction' Guns 'n Roses
'Graceland' Paul Simon
'Robbie Robertson' Robbie Robertson (great album!)
No Stones or Who, however. |

"Graceland" came out in August 1986, but thats certainly one of the better recent years in recent history, regardless - I'd add Bruce's "Tunnel of love" and Prince's "Sign O' The Times" to around the top part of that list, though.
Mick released "Primitive Cool" that year, of course!! |

Words of wisdom Mr. F, technically you're right and not just that, nowaday we have many ways to listen music from all years, including Real Rhapsody, i-tunes, and many more to change music via bit torrents, to trade MP3, etc |

aaaragghh!!! most of the above sucks donkey dicks and is why we try and FORGET the 80's---that being said, I have a weak spot for 'Mirage'...and even Geils, but jeez they jumped the shark in the 70's...their 80's output was poppier no doubt, but not as good
how 'bout 'Combat Rock' from that year?
or Flipper's first album? |

Yeah, re: Jimi and The Doors, I wasn't speaking in terms of album releases, just rock & roll in general and what was happening at the time. 1967-72 were really the golden years.
