F505 A question: did Andy warhol invented the tongue logo and did he design it himself or is some other unknown celebrity responsible for the design?

egon it was someone else who made i according to mick's 'instructions.

F505 And who is that someone else?
April 22nd, 2004 06:25 AM
egon someone not famous. just some guy that ook the job and got paid for it.

i think mick wanted the logo to look like a hindou god or something.

someone psoted an article about it not too long ago.

Monkey Woman Yep. Egon has it.

The story is in According To The Stones, too. Mick got the idea of a disembodied mouth with tongue lolling out from images of the Hindu goddess Kali. She's often represented in a state of frenzy, dancing madly over the corpses of her victims, tongue out and eyes rolling.
Mick commissioned the artist John Pasche to design a logo based on that image. It was Pasches's idea to give it a cartoonish, "pop art" look and to model it on Mick's own lips. The Stones first used it for their "Brown Sugar", the 1st single released on RS Records.

I think John Pasche got $200 for the design, and later a bonus when the tongue-and-lips logo became widely used, but he never got royalties.

Andy Wharol designed the cover of Sticky Fingers, with the infamous zipper... The male model on the cover is not Mick, btw, but one of Wharol's boyfriends.

egon and what about me?

i mean, i knew it was a guy who designed it on the basis of some god that mick had in mind, or something.

so i'm a sort of encyclopedia as well, no?
maybe a pocket version...?

LadyJane Egon..my friend...I'd say your expertise is more along the lines of the Walking Encyclopedia of the Drinking Thread, although you may have some stiff competition from Nanky!!

But you do get points for the tongue logo answer, too!
