Topic: Opening Song? Return to archive

beardedhag Here's a question for you all...which song should the Stones use to open their 2002/2003 World Tour? Past choices include; Jumpin' Jack Flash (1969/1970, No Security), Satisfaction (B2B), Not Fade Away (Voodoo Lounge, a particularly inspired choice in my opinion), Start Me Up (Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle), Under My Thumb (1981/1982), Honky Tonk Women (1975/1976), and Let it Rock (1978). Personally, I'd love to see them start with Rocks Off, but it probably won't happen.

Jaxx they played rocks off around the 5 slot during the voodoo lounge tour in '95. don't know if that will knock it off the opener list for the next tour....

my vote is for the opener to be soul survivor. i think that would be so profound.

THIERRY DANCE LITTLE SISTER!!!
This opening riff is perfect for 2002
Listen to the way they played that number at the El Mocambo

stonedinaustralia thierry how did you hear that!

to the question...i think i've said it before but if not (and anyway) i'll say it again...GOMPER

Honky Tonker I liked Start Me Up and Under My Thumb as openers, but would really like to see Can't You Hear Me Knockin'(the first part) segueing into Love Is Strong. Kick it off with some Keef guitar!!

Dan Down The Road Apiece.

My guess is they follow the recent pattern of opening with a big hit, this time either Brown Sugar or IORR.

Sometimes the commas are indispensable!

Read it this way:

beardedhag I like Honky Tonker's idea of Can't You Hear Me Knocking segueing into Love is Strong. That would seriously rock.

Gazza I'd love somethin' like "You cant catch me" or "let it Rock"

But I think the "Hot Rocks" rotation sequence will mean that maybe this year it'll be "Brown Sugar"
04-11-02 04:38 AM
marko How about Paint it black?but that would be keith opening,
like satisfaction was 97-98,and jjf 99.Its micks turn like
not fade away-94/95,,,mona?too close to not fade away?
Tumbling dice?it could be brown sugar?there left honky tonk
woman,if they want to recycle song, also under my thumb, let
it rock, they need something to catch audience in their feet.
So it should be a rock song, not a mid tempo song.Brown sugar
or paint it black.

Cardinal Ximinez The correct answer to every question is:

Midnight Rambler

Now THAT would be a hell of an opener!
04-11-02 01:16 PM
Lazy Bones I'm with Joey - Gimme Shelter!
04-11-02 05:14 PM

WahWahWoody I guess it will be "Paint it black" but I would love a really ass-kicking short and fast version of "Rip that joint" !!! It would send out the message, Yeah, we're back and we still get you rocking!!! Second could be "Start me up".
04-12-02 07:34 AM
marko How about you got me rocking?its easy quite fast, and catchy
rock song, and one of my favorite songs from 89-97.

Y9ou Got Me Rocking is a great option but was released in 1994 not 1989!
04-13-02 02:50 AM
marko well well,i didnt say that it was released in 89,i only
said that its one of my favorite songs from 89-97,,,btw,
besides you got me rocking, theres many many on voodoo lounge
what they really should play.
love is strong
you got me rocking
the worst
i go wild
out of tears
breand new car
moon is up

the album gets better year after year.
04-13-02 08:31 AM
KEEFNTHAT Yeah! Midnight rambler would be the absolubte business of an opener.
Gimme Shleter cannot cut it live as we saw in No Security Tour, midnight rambler is best
LIVE and that is why it should be the opener! Rip this joint also would kick a fair bit of ass!
04-13-02 11:43 AM
JaggaRichards A Chuck Berry song. Please.
04-13-02 05:31 PM
Vacendak Good idea, JaggaRichards. Not "Little Queenie," though. Maybe "Carol" or "Around and Around." Even more unique would be "Roll Over Beethoven" or even an unprecedented "Johnny B. Goode." Actually, "Bye Bye Johhny" would be most excellent. As far as Stones tunes as possible openers, I'd be glad to see "Bitch," "If You Can't Rock Me," or "Shattered." For possible club shows, I'd be floored by a slowly rising curtain, a lone spotlight on Jagger,Richards, and Wood (w/Charlie behind), and the acoustic delight of "Prodigal Son," or the very first single, "Come On." Of course, in five minutes, I'll have completely changed my Stoneswarped mind. Rock Onnnn.....

On June 16, 2001 the hit counter of the WET page was inserted here, it had 174,489 hits. Now the hit counter is for both the page and the board. The hit counter of the ITW board had 1,127,645 hits when it was closed and the Coolboard didn't have hit counter but was on line only two months and a half.
