Jumacfly Dear Sway,

could you please ask the Crowes to come to France please??
18th April 2006 11:17 AM
Saint Sway looks like they'll hit Europe again in late Fall. After these summer dates, the brothers are gonna do a few select acoustic shows again and some dates with Bob Dylan in early fall. Then its back to the full-blown 3 hour shows.
18th April 2006 11:19 AM
Break The Spell I plan on seeing the Columbus show, maybe even the cleveland show too. I still have to wait and see after the Stones fall tour comes how much money I have left over.
18th April 2006 11:21 AM
voodoopug Sadly, the Chicago show conflicts with my Pearl Jam travel plans.
18th April 2006 11:30 AM
batcave They are also playing two nights at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom here in New Hampshire on the 26th and 27th of May. For those not familiar with the Casino, it's a small club, about 1500 people or so.

So if you want to see them up close and personal, tickets are onsale on Ticketmaster now.

Break The Spell It's even better that Drive By Truckers are touring with them. If you guys have never seen this band before, you're in for a treat. I saw them in a 400 capacity club 2 summers ago, one of the highlights of the whole year!! This will definately be a good tour to catch at least one show of if you can.

THE BLACK CROWES
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE FAMILY BAND
AND
DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS;
NINE-WEEK TREK ROLLS OUT JUNE 10 IN SEATTLE

On the heels of CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON's three sold-out nights of acoustic performances in New York City to ecstatic fans and lengthy standing ovations, THE BLACK CROWEShave announced a major summer headlining tour with their special guests Robert Randolph & The Family Band and Drive-By Truckers. Launching June 10 in Seattle, the nine-week trek will visit mostly sheds--including Jones Beach (New York), PNC Bank (New Jersey), Shoreline (San Francisco), Tweeter Center (Boston) and Cynthia Woods (Houston)--as it criss-crosses the U.S. into mid-August.

Each night of CHRIS and RICH's “Brothers Of A Feather: An Acoustic Evening With Chris & Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes” has sold out within minutes after going on sale. The two-week trek--which marks the first time the brothers have ever performed full-length acoustic sets in their 16-year career--concludes April 26 in Los Angeles after a three-night stand at The Roxy. While in New York, CHRIS and RICH performed at three different venues: Warsaw, Rose Theater @ Jazz at Lincoln Center and Town Hall.

"'Brothers of a Feather' is certainly a sight to behold and a sound to endear. Although there are only eleven dates booked for the tour, if Friday's show is any indication, they will go down in rock and roll history as some of the greatest performances ever played," reports the Stony Brook Independent (4/15/06) about the brothers' show at Rose Theater @ Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Meanwhile, the band's first-ever DVD FREAK 'N' ROLL...INTO THE FOG roared out of the box, debuting at #2 on Billboard's Music Video chart. A film crew captured THE BLACK CROWES performing five sold-out nights at San Francisco's historic Fillmore Auditorium in August 2005. Writing in the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE about one of the shows, Joel Selvin noted that "The Black Crowes never sounded better than it did Saturday at the Fillmore Auditorium, the peak performance of a sold-out five-night run...(the band) definitely staked a claim in these Fillmore shows as one of the last of the classic rock bands” (8/8/05).

Since reuniting and re-connecting with their loyal fans last year, THE BLACK CROWES have been performing what some called "the best shows of their career." While they achieved a career watermark by headlining their New Year's Eve show at Madison Square Garden, the band--Chris (vocals), Rich (guitars), Marc Ford (guitars), Eddie Hawrysch (keyboards), Sven Pipien (bass) and Steve Gorman (drums)--also played seven sold-out shows at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom, performed five-nights at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles and were headliners at three of the most prestigious festivals in America (New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits Festival). Summing up the allure of THE BLACK CROWES' concert experience, Mikael Wood of The Village Voice (12/28/05) said the band "remain one of rock's best live acts, as hard-grooving as during their heyday and caked with an extra layer of rambling-man soulfulness."

I saw them last year at Hampton Beach Casino. Great show. Just unbelievable to see them rocking out with the full lineup in a venue that small. General admission - packed floor - smokin - hazy - very cool.

mentioning the NYE gig does not help my image of ticket sales. (see many levels tarped off)

Break The Spell Do the Crowes have any plans to record an album of all new studio material?? Lions came out in 2001 I believe.

they were only just 1500 short of a full sell out on NYE at MSG. Respectable. And better than the Stones in many European venues.

Europe was a disaster and a poor decision by the Cohls. They lower ticket prices makes it even worse....Sadly, jb and I predicted this months agon, were attacked/mocked and once again have been proven correct.

Yes. They have been in the studio and have laid down tons of tracks. They started debuting a few of them at the Robinson brothers acoustic shows.

they just released the live DVD "Into The Fog" and will next release a dvd or cd from these acoustic shows. Also, previously unreleased albums are being remastered and released later this year as well.

Have that many regions in Europe fell to U2, Bon Jovi and Coldplay, or do they just have no interest in the Stones anymore??

Many things are causing this:

1. Bad Press
2. Stones lack of interest, evident by the lackluster setlists.
3. Been there done that feeling by fans
4. Bono has now been endorsed by the Christian faith and has completely taken over all "western" culture areas
5. Oasis is now the pride and joy of England (also Elton John)
6. Very low profits lead to a "get the heck out of here immediately" feeling for the band.
7. Chuck is burned out.
8. Too many top ten lists omitting the Stones
9. Joey has too many Europeans fired up about upcoming "WHO" projects.
10. Many embarrassed to be seen in sporatically filled venues.

the list goes on and on.

Sad to see all of this, the press and media the past decade have been particularly nasty to the Stones. Once the Stones are gone, and the media's hyped up darlings are broken up or struggling to survive, the Stones legacy will still endure and the press will wonder why they were so cruel.

Saint Sway,

Can you elaborate on this? Is this that album in between Amorica and Three Snakes that they didn't release? Was it called 'Higher'? I'm only familiar with the released stuff - never delved into the boots. But, I'm curious to know about this.

A lot of people do not know that you can hear the bands from the beach without buying a ticket. You used to be able to see the bands from the beach, but the venue might have changed the sightlines.

I think it was called "Taller"

We have a concert venue on the Ohio River where I live where you could hear and see shows if you were in the stands of the horse racing track next to it!!

yes. there was an album they recorded called "Taller" that was shelved between Southern Harmony & Amorica. Some of the tracks made it onto Amorica. Others have been imortalized in their live shows as concert highlights - Title Song, Feathers, The Fear Years and Tied Up & Swallowed.

the other album was called "The Band Sessions". This was recorded in Nashville and is one of their most rootsy and heartfelt albums. Its a gorgeous record done in the vein of Dylan & The Band, Flying Burrito Brothers and Beggars Banquet. 11 songs. Paint An 8 and Another Roadside Tragedy have been featured throughout the tour. This is the album that is closest in sound to the new material I have heard.

for track listings and more info go to www.frayed.org and follow the links to the Crowes and the Taller and Band album links.

frayed dot org is a really cool site that is split into 2 halves - one ALL STONES and one ALL CROWES. Very comprehensive and cool shit. Dig!!

"Taller" was scrapped bc Rich & Chris faught heavily over the material on it. This was a heavy drug period for some of the band along with big fighting between the 2 bros over the direction of the band. The album is excellent. But it is also a very heavy and dark. drug ladened 70s type sound. (ie listen to Title Song on The Black Crowes "Live" cd)

"The Band" album did not come out because the record label (Rick Rubin) thought it wasnt commercial enough. Which is a shame because it is an absolute amazing record. Its a total throwback. I hold it up along side most of my favorite records like Blood On The Tracks, Derek & Dominos, Beggars, Every Picture Tells A Story, Greivous Angel...

the 2 records are night and day. Yin and Yang. Think a darker version of Southern Harmony against a mellowed version of Three Snakes.

both are amazing. And after 16 years the Crowes are fully fead up with the entire recording industry and are rightfully and proudly releasing this stuff on their own.

nothing "confirmed" yet.

Dylan has done some "baseball park" shows with Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard the past 2 summers. Hopefully the Crowes or the Robinson brothers will be a part of this.

The mutual desire to do it is definately there from both camps and it so far sounds like a go... hopefully dates and schedules can be worked out....
18th April 2006 01:00 PM
Break The Spell Out of all that unreleased material, "The Band Sessions" sounds the most interesting, if its close in feel to Beggar's Banquet and Every Picture Tells A Story, two incredible albums. I liked the live version of Taller and wondered where it had its origins.
