New Brian Wilson Studio Album in June
By Tamara Conniff
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Brian Wilson )'s first new studio album in six years, "Gettin' in Over My Head," will be released by Warner Music Group's Rhino Records on June 22.
The 61-year-old former Beach Boy recently resurrected and finished his legendary "Smile" sessions, which he debuted live in the United Kingdom. Wilson is expected to tour Europe in the summer in support of "Gettin' in Over My Head" and possibly bring the "Smile" concert to the United States in the fall. He is currently in the studio working on the final version of "Smile," which will likely also be released through Warner.
"Gettin' in Over My Head" features guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Elton John, Van Dyke Parks and Paul McCartney . The album also includes a duet with his late brother Carl Wilson titled "Soul Searchin'."
"Gettin' in Over My Head" features a number songs which Wilson had worked on earlier but had not yet completed, including the title track and "Desert Drive," which are culled from his mid-1990s collaboration with producer Andy Paley. Wilson's last studio album was 1998's "Imagination."

Actually the Beatles were avowed Brian Wilson lovers who stole his idea of a concept album (Smile) with (their way-overrated) Sgt. Pepper's. That's why he junked it in '67. Fucking thieves.
He is guilty of giving us Wilson Philips though. |

Words of wisdom...
Hey Hey Hey
When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen, broken every single time
Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you would (sue) me
But I see some type of pleasure in my mind
Yeah, here comes the water
It's come to wash away the sins of you and I
This time you'll see
Hey hey hey
When you seek me you'll destroy me
Rip my mind and smell the poppies
Falle in blood in every single time
Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you might linger
But I see some type of pleasure in my mind
Yeah, here comes the water
It's come to wash away the sins of you and I
This time you see
Like holy water
It only burns you faster than you'll ever dry
This time with me
(guitar solo)
When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen and broken
Every single time
Yeah, here comes the water
It's come to wash away the sins of you and I
This time you see
Like holy water
It only burns you faster than you'll ever dry
This time with me
Hey, hey, hey

Okay, here's a BW/Stones connection. He was at the studio when they did "My Obsession." He still recounts the session fondly in interviews, saying he thought that the song was the best thing he ever heard, that he had the best dope he ever smoked at the session (perhaps influencing his opinion of the song), that the Stones were great guys, etc. Brian has mentioned his admiration of the Stones more than once, and has stated that he patterned the song "Marcella" on Stones' music.
Ron Wood also admires the Beach Boys, having chosen "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" as one of his four picks on the Starbucks compilation.
The boot being offered here is fantastic (thanks, MacDaddy, I finally did get it a few weeks ago). The non-Smile set is also great. The sound quality is one of the best I've heard of any live boot. Kudos to the taper. I listen to it all the time (too bad official live albums aren't as good). |
