WWII enthusiasts and Band of Brothers fans will be saddened to learn that Ronald Spiers has passed away. Spiers was the last commander of Easy Company 506 PIR during the war and had a reputation as being a hard nosed killer and an excellent combat officer. It was Spiers who supposedly shot one of his own sargents for being drunk on duty and was rumored to have executed a group of German POWs on DDay after handing them each cigarettes and offering a light. Spiers never confirmed or denied these rumors, however.

In any case, another of America's WWII veterans has passed. Soon there will be none left!

Spiers was played in the miniseries by Matthew Settle.
