Topic: MSG July 25 1972 both shows NOW AVAILABLE Return to archive Page: 1 2
March 21st, 2004 10:52 AM
TornAndFrayed I have been working on this since January and now I can finally offer two of the most wanted unsurfaced shows to RS collectors:

The Rolling Stones

Madison Square Garden, July 25, 1972, both shows

I have received these directly from the taper. He also taped an already legendary Led Zeppelin concert at the same venue (09-19-1970, evening show). This LZ show was offered for download at the www.sharingthegroove.org website and after a while, the taper joined the discussion at the forums at STG and gave some first hand info on his recording. Offhand, he said something like "Back in those days, I taped every concert I went to." Simply out of curiosity, I asked him wether he happened to record a Rolling Stones show.
This was his answer:

"Yeah, two of the 72 shows -- I think it was 7/25/72, afternoon and evening. Both tapes are listenable, with the evening show notably better (I had much better seats) -- plus it had the best Mick Taylor slide performance on Love in Vain I've ever heard. But I listened to it around the time I transferred the Zeppelin concert, and decided not to do it, at least, not yet."

I got back to him and when I said that these are probably the most wanted unsurfaced RS concerts, he said he could transfer them for me. This was three months ago and now I have received the discs and everyone who is interested should get a copy.

Here is some info:

Sharing The Groove is a fantastic place and also the place where I found these recordings.
I dont know how many members of this board know STG (I know that mac_daddy posts over there) but if you have a high speed internet connection, I strongly recommend to check it out. Its a great place to share all kinds of music.

Enjoy!
