LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs will star as blues musician Robert Johnson in the HBO Films feature "Love in Vain," which begins production on location in Mississippi in September.
Tim Blake Nelson, last in theaters with the Holocaust drama "The Gray Zone," will direct from a script by Alan Greenberg.
Johnson, the so-called "King of the Delta Blues," is considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, even though he died at age 27 and recorded only 29 songs, including "Crossroads," "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom," "Sweet Home Chicago," "Terraplane Blues" and "Love in Vain."
Combs won broad acclaim for his role as a Death Row prisoner in the Oscar-winning 2001 feature "Monster's Ball." He also co-starred in "Made," and has been taking acting lessons to improve his craft. |

Jeez, Moonisup, everytime I see that Chuck pic I can not concentrate on anything.. all I can do I laugh...
But, as I was to say, a great title that movie has. Of all those 29 song titles they picked this one. Any guesses why?

Ric, I agree. That Chuck picture is just disturbing, really.
"Hello, children... I've come to ruin your favorite Stones songs! Gimme some CANDY!!!" |

Monkey Woman |
A movie about Robert Johnson is bound to be interesting, at least. And at best it could blow the minds of the younger audience and make them discover The Blues... |

Uh oh.
Something smells like wet pushpups.
I've been wrong before about biopics - I remember saying "JOHNNY DEPP as my hero Ed Wood! NEVER!" and then having to eat my words when the movie turned out to be a classic. I also thought "Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi? THAT'LL never work. Too recognizable!" and of course, Landau got an oscar for my miscalculation.
But I do not believe I'm gonna buy Puff Daddy as the great Robert Johnson. Hell, I bitched about the way Johnson was portrayed in "O Brother Where Art Thou", which is one of my all-time favorite movies. In fact, the ONLY thing this baby has in its corner from my viewpoint is that the director played Delmar in the aforementioned masterpiece, and also sings "In The Jailhouse Now" in the neighborhood of B.
Only reference I could find to the screenwriter, Alan Greenberg, is that a guy named ROBERT Alan Greenberg directed the horrendous film "Little Monsters" in 1989. I sure hope it's a different guy.
This just sounds HORRID. Hope I'm wrong. |

FPM, J.Depp is a great actor who disappers into his characters. Martin Landau-goes without saying. Btw, I need Ed Wood to cum out on dvd!
Pee Diddy-he's not a class act and has diddly talent. I'd rather J. Depp played R.Johnson...rotfl.
Btw, I ALMOST met Johnny Depp at an Iggy show! What was that John Waters movie w/DEpp, Iggy and Traci Lords? |

Hi Martha and J.J., good to drop in on you guys.
Factory Girl- "Cry-Baby". |
|
Martha |
Keep..you just keep on droppin' in anytime you like...it's always a good day when you appear on the board!
I'll look into this one FPM to see if I can figure out more on the director.
Let's hope for the best! |

My dear Keep...you've been on hiatus so long...I'm...engaged...to Joey. There, I said it. I'm sorry. But, you just weren't there for me like Joey was...leaving me presents in my undie drawer, eating pie like a champ, etc.
About the movie...P. Diddy?! Is he footin' the bill for this production? He probably is. You know P. Diddy. Always gots to have his finger in everbodys' pie. |

*And thus Keep entered his dark period.*
Gypsy darling, where I've been...where I had to be.
But Joey's a good man...and you know how much I love married women...
"Have the time of your lives."
(And I'll come flying to you again.)
PS. Martha, you're too much. |

gypsy |
Oh, you and your Swayze-like ways have wooed me back to you again...that, and the fact that Joey will always be a sheeplover.
Joey and gypsy=off
keep and gypsy=on again |

My dear gypsy-P.Diddly is getting nowhere near my pie. A Factory girl's gotta have her standards...rotfl |
|
gypsy |
I would not let that idiot anywhere near my pie. Have you seen his big ass teeth?! |
|
beer |
Gypsy, ya need an avatar! Anita perhaps? |
|
Factory Girl |
Lol, gypsy-my pie is a P.Diddy-free zone. |
|
gypsy |
Hey, beer! Haven't seen you here in a while. Yes, I do need an avatar. An Anita one would be perfect. Definitely a young Anita pic.
That is great news, FG. P Diddy is just plain gross. |
|
Factory Girl |
You know, gypsy-Ben Affleck now has P.Diddy cooties. Ben Affleck gives me the creeps. Also, have you noticed how shiny and greasy Ben has become?? |
|
gypsy |
FG, did you get the new issue of "Us Weekly" too? It has a special 2-page section comparing P Diddy and B Diddy (<--Ben's new nickname) and how similar they've become. It is scary. |

I know that NOW! But at the time I was just aghast, because I thought of him as the cute guy from Jump Street. I had to go back and re-evaluate everything he did after that, and found that 21 Jump Street was the ONLY thing I DIDN'T like.
Have you seen Johnny in Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man"? Jarmusch is one of my all-time favorite "new" directors ("new" compared to Fritz Lang or Sergei Eisenstein), Neil Young did the music,it's in glorious black & white...what's not to love?
>Martin Landau-goes without saying.
Again, I know that NOW. I had ultimate respect for Landau, but Bela was a childhood idol of mine (I know, that IS pretty weird) and I didn't think anyone could pull it off to suit me. He's not only believable, but captures the true pathos of Bela - the scene with him in the sanitorium going cold turkey is pretty shocking for a "comedy".
>Btw, I need Ed Wood to cum
Did you spell that like a bizarre porno message on purpose? I think there would have to be same Angora involved for that to happen!
>Pee Diddy-he's not a class act and has diddly talent. I'd rather J. Depp played R.Johnson...rotfl.
me too. In fact I wish there was some way I could prevent this from happening. Next thing you know he'll release a new song that has him rapping over a Robert Johnson song, like that awful Police song thing he did.
>Btw, I ALMOST met Johnny Depp at an Iggy show!
How did it ALMOST happen? btw, I had a girlfriend in the 80s who slept with Iggy once. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything!
>What was that John Waters movie w/DEpp, Iggy and Traci Lords?
Already answered above, it's "Cry Baby", which is still my least favorite John Waters movie. I love "Serial Mom" and "Female Trouble" the most.
I met John Waters once - he seemed so NORMAL and NICE - but when I read the autograph he gave me, it said "Jon - See you in HELL - John Waters".

FPM, it seems too fucking long ago-I was at Hammerjacks (Baltimore, Md) for Ig's "American Caesar" tour And Johnny Depp was there too. My drunk friend informed me of "Johnny Depp by the bar", but I said back that I wasn't missing any of the Ig show.
Its ok, I don't like actors very much. And Johnny Depp is the best actor of my generation. |
|
gypsy |
When is Johnny supposed to start filming the movie about Gram Parsons that Keith bought the rights to?
Gram was tall and lanky...Johnny does not physically resemble Gram in any way. But, he is a good actor, and will probably pull it off. |
|
Factory Girl |
gypsy, I did not get US Weekly with the greasy two-some.
B. Diddy-that is gross. Also, I think J. Depp will be in a pirate movie next. I'm not sure about the timing of the Gram Parsons film.
FPM-yes, I porno-spelled "cum" on purpose. I touched Iggy several times at a show once. He was VERY SWEATY. (Just a little factoid for FPM...lol).

The "Us Weekly" deal shows how Ben is morphing into P. Diddy...it's scary. |
