The Rolling Stones concert tomorrow at the Palace Grounds is going to be a spectacular show with mind boggling equipment for earthshaking sound effects, dazzling light effects and the fireworks.

While the star attraction of the show will be Sir Mick Jagger, Ron Woods, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts, the main performers, equally stunning will be the sound and light effects and the production extravaganza associated with Rolling Stones shows.

Mr Jake Berry, Production Manager of the show, spoke about the logistics involved in the show at the site of the concert today. Mr Berry has done the production work for all the shows of the Rolling Stones Licks Tour since September 2002. Earlier he has done production work for such famous acts as U2, Tina Turner and AC/DC. In fact, since 1975 (for 28 years) he has done nothing but stage production work.

Mr Berry is assisted by a multi-national crew from Costa Rica, Australia, America, England, Belgium and the Netherlands. In Bangalore, as elsewhere in the world, he is also supported by local labour and crew.

The 117 tonne steel stage with the roof has come all the way from Belgium to Chennai and then to Bangalore. This specially fabricated stage is 120 X 60 ft and the roof is 40 feet high.

Since the show is travelling from place to place, the stage has to be big and practical. Normally it takes two days to erect this stage, but here we have done it in 16 hours. It is difficult, but exciting, Mr Berry said.

The video and lighting equipment in 400 cases weighing 95 tonnes came in on a specially chartered 747 jumbo plane and another 10 tonnes of sound equipment has come from Japan. For the very first time digital plasma screens will display various configurations of video outputs including spell-binding special effects. There are moving light and syncro lights which will be seen for the first time in India, says Mr Berry.

A heart-pounding sound system with an output of 240,000 watts will be rigged up which will be complemented by a mesmerising stage lighting consisting of over 800 moving lights, sky tracers among other light effects.

Giant confetti cannons will blast confetti, which will be tri-colours of the Indian flag for this show.

Highwire Rob Man, that sounds great! And Brian will definitely be there in spirit--can you imagine how that would totally be his scene? Lotus position on stage, playing sitar with incense and strains of Paint it Black wafting over the crowds...

I think they do it since the VL tour, that multi-nationality stage crew!!
