Fiji Joe Summer approaches and Fiji wants to know your thoughts on the best Stones record to listen to why drinking a few cold ones in the sweltering summer heat...

My pick...Emotional Rescue
04-02-03 10:33 AM
Boomhauer I think Some Girls would be a good choice. ER very good too (i.e., Summer Romance)

Still Life is a great live album for the summer.

luxury1 Fiji--you gonna be growing bigger beer titties this summer? Have you ever heard the reggae-covered Stones tunes disc? I dont remember the name of it--but it is really good. JJF, HTW, Waitin on Friend, Cant always get..--all by some reggae artists with a great reggae dance groove. It is a definitive "by the pool, with a Stoli and lemonade" disc. Because I dont want bigger beer titties.

100 Years Ago SG is definitely a summer album, Exile of course and my sleeper summer pick...DW, in my youth housepainting in '86 that one was a staple to listen to whilst scrapin' and sweatin' in the sun. I would hit play, the opening chords to One Hit would hit me like a cold blast of fresh air and I would commence to paintin'. I was doin' the dirty work
04-02-03 11:02 AM
sirmoonie Feej, ER was first one that jumped to my mind.

That and Black and Blue have the most summery feel to them.
04-02-03 11:07 AM
steel driving hammer Well it depends on the humidity...

Like on a very humid day in Chicago, I wouldn't want to listen to Beggars Banquet because it will only make the humidity feel worse. So on a hot and sticky day, I'd like to listen to Exile w/ it's nice variety of outside wind blowing in your hair type of open air songs.

Also think Dirty Work will work very well for a hot and humid summer day.

For a non humid summer day, Black and Blue, Tattoo You and Some Girls.

Joey Tattoo You !

04-02-03 11:32 AM
Fiji Joe Oh, Still Life slipped my mind....good call...and no, I haven't heard the reggae cover album...will have to track that down...

And yes, fuck yes, the beer titties will grow exponentially this summer
04-02-03 11:55 AM
Joey " And yes, the beer ti##ies will grow exponentially this summer "

<----- Does this mean you STILL won't cover up ?

What happened to you ? For awhile you were a bit more discreet and wore a Black Tee ..............

Highwire Rob Warmer weather with windows or top down in the car... approaching stoplights where other cruisers are trying to cue their rap and kiddy pop? Nothing like blasting them out with opening side-1 of Tattoo You. Then side-2 for the evening patio chillin' with friends & beers.

Some Girls would be especially good listening while relaxing (sightseeing!) on a sandy beach.

You mean the album originally entitled "Tropical Disease"? Man, that album IS humidity to me! "Ventilator Blues" makes me sweat just thinking about it.

Actually, almost ALL of the Stones albums sound like summer to me. Even "Winter" has the line "hope it's gonna be a long hot summer." I think Tattoo You, Some Girls and ER are the ones that make me think of hot fun in the summertime the most.

Factory Girl Steelie, did your avatar just return from making a
porno-movie?

Summer-I like Grateful Dead in the summer. "Sugar Magnolia" and all that light, trippy stuff.

Sir Stonesalot I don't own ER so I can't play it in the summer...or EVER.

I still think that record was recorded by pod-people Stones. It sure as hell wasn't done by the Rolling Stones that I love.

For me it's Let It Bleed, Exile, and Aftermath....Between The Buttons too.

Bluzian As I was saying in a previous post about a month ago, I find
that Black & Blue is the ultimate summer album!!! It just
has these grooves and riffs that (to me) signify frolicking
in the sweet summer sunshine. No ifs ands or buts.

Cheers,
Ian

I also like the COlin James "FUSE" album for summer time.
Great record. 2000 release. bluesy, soulful, catchy.. yeah!
