" REAL GOOD LOOKING BOY

When I think back to the
first time in my childhood
When I saw that face
I thought right then,
'That's a real good looking boy.'

I saw myself in the mirror
in profile
for the first time
I thought,
'Hey! That's a real good looking boy'

And I felt then
that I moved
With all those lucky bucks and angels
High in the theatre
In the sky

So I went to my mother
I said,
'Hey mom - take look at me'
Have you ever seen a teen
Fly so high?

That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy

She said,
'Son, well, you know,
you're ugly boy.
You don't really look like him.

In this long line
There's been some
real strange genes
You've got 'em all
You've got 'em all
With some extras thrown in

That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy

Wise men say
Only fools, only fools rush in
But I - I can't help
Fallin in love, in love with you

Now I'm here with you little darling
And you say, 'You're beautiful as you are'
And I've managed somehow to survive

You arrived in my life like a fragrance
And helped me find a way to laugh
And I know now so-called beauty lies

God gave him a face
Then he gave me something above
God gave me grace
Then he gave me your sweet, sweet, sweet love

You make me feel like a real good looking boy
I feel like a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy

OLD RED WINE (For John)

Old red wine
Well past its prime
May have to finish it
After crossing the line

Dusty old wine
Two thousand a time
An inch of black mud
Always left behind

They say you turned in
While the sun still shined
That gorgeous girl with you
Was highly primed

She said she'd take you
Way down or way up
She might break your heart
She might crack you up

Old red wine
Not worth a dime
Gonna have to drink it with yer
Some other time

Expensive old wine
Forty years lying
Mice chewed the labels
Don't know what we're buying

Back home in California
They got wine for the meek
There's the Bowl and the Fillmore
The Cow and the Greek

You sniffed at the cork
Chose low on the list
Held your glass to the light
And gazed through the mist

Old red wine
Well past its prime
Gonna have to drink it with you
Some other time…….
Let it breathe

Let it breathe

Let it breathe "

Hannalee A couple of reviews to whet the appetite; here:

From the Daily Telegraph
Blown away by the windmilling wizard
(Filed: 24/03/2004)

Craig McLean reviews The Who at the Forum, NW5

Three minutes in, during a ferocious Who Are You, we get the first Pete Townshend windmill. A few minutes later, midway through Can't Explain, Roger Daltrey starts twirling his microphone round his head. Forty - that's 40 - years since forming, the Who are back, doing their thing. They look and sound in ludicrously good health. Death, acrimony and OTT rock operas have not diminished them.

On fine form: Roger Daltry of The Who
These are busy times for Townshend, 58, and Daltrey, 60. There's a new compilation out this month. Tommy is coming on DVD. They're working on a new studio album, their first in 22 years. Next week, the Albert Hall hosts the fourth annual Who-curated concerts in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. The Who perform Tommy on Monday, and tonight's show is the first of three warm-ups.

These are the band's first UK shows since the death in 2002 of bass player John Entwistle and since Townshend was cautioned last May after admitting to viewing child porn on the internet. Factor in the intimacy of the setting and the atmosphere is one of homecoming celebration.

They don't mess around. The hits spill out of them with swaggering confidence and thumping volume, from their debut album's The Kids Are Alright via Pinball Wizard to 1981's You Better You Bet, their last Top 10 hit. Daltrey, who looks half his age, still packs a mighty vocal punch.

While veteran session bassist Pino Palladino maintains the low-key tradition of Entwistle, Zak Starkey, Ringo Starr's son, attacks his drumkit with orang-utang abandon; squint, and it could almost be Keith Moon bouncing on the stool.

Clearly happy to be getting back to the day job after a year of horrendous headlines, Townshend is in top form. During Substitute he hops around with something approaching glee. Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere sees him stretching out his arms in a yogic triumph.

Then, just when Townshend's twiddly tendencies threaten to get a bit much, they bang out My Generation, reclaim Behind Blue Eyes from its recent desecration at the hands of Limp Bizkit, and promptly blow away most modern bands young enough to be their grandkids with a punchy Won't Get Fooled Again.

To paraphase that generational anthem, meet the new bosses, same as the old bosses. The Who are still in charge.

Dan I havent heard either song but you think with Townshends recent "troubles," he would have thought of a better song title than "Real Good Looking Boy." Maybe there will be something at least as good as "Eminence Front" or "Another Tricky Day" on the new album.

From The Independent

The Who, The Forum, London
Anthems to banish the blues
By Gavin Martin
25 March 2004

The Who's first British date since the death of bassist John Entwhistle was a chance for the group's leader to find succour and support in the communal audience he has tended for so long. On the night the crowd were not found wanting. For the first 20 minutes of the show, even the decibel-challenging output of Townshend, Daltrey and co was challenged by the vociferous crowd.

With long-time side man Rabbit Bundrick on piano, Pino Paladino taking Entwhistle's role on bass, and the redoubtable Zak, son of Ringo Starr, Starkey on drums, The Who 2004 are a ferociously well-drilled outfit.

For his part, Townshend remained mute about his recent difficulties, but, as expected, the music spoke volumes. Looking slim, fit and ready for action, the guitarist fired into the psych-rock chords of "Who Are You". Although the solo was partly fluffed, the song inspired by a drunken Seventies crisis of conscience rang with new contemporary meaning.

On "I Can't Explain", Daltrey swung his mike, Townshend exhibited his windmilling power chords, but both here and in the following "Substitute" - all but drowned out by the barracking choir - a certain nostalgic listlessness was detectable. But as the evening progressed, Daltrey and Townshend's determination to keep the band they have fronted for four decades relevant won through.

Before their recent difficulties, the group were planning to release their first album of original material in more than 20 years. In the light of recent events, that plan now takes on a new sense of moment, and the on-stage chemistry between the pair - who have spenttheir professional lives at war with one another - suggested they were up for the task. The double-act has always been Roger Daltrey as Townshend's alter-ego, with the guitarist's visceral attack churning up monsters from the id. During "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere", Townshend strikes a Messianic pose and lets off aural grenades, explosive runs along the fret that speak of both frustration and determination.

Daltrey admitted that: "It doesn't matter how much you hurt, when you get on stage it all goes out the window.'' But it is the two's ability to pull each other out of difficulties that still gives them meaning and purpose. A moment in "Love Reign o'er Me" illustrates just how. In the middle of a commanding performance, Daltrey forgets his lines, but where in the past Townshend might have been minded to throttle him, tonight he pulls off a majestic ringing sequence that restates the song's theme of deliverance.

Although this week's series of gigs are pitched as a warm-up for the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit performance of Tommy at the Royal Albert Hall, two new songs were premiered. And even surrounded by such war-horses as "My Generation", "Teenage Wasteland" and "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Old Red Wine", inspired by Entwhistle, and "Real Good Looking Boy", did not shame their canon.

What is it they say about when the going gets tough?

Sir Stonesalot I saw the Who last time out...they get the skip this time. Besides, Maxy is taking me out for a 3 hour tour on his boat whenever the Who are playing near me.

I don't know when that will be yet, but I'm sure that's what I'll be doing whenever it is.

We'll be hanging our asses over the side and pooping little Joeylogs into beautiful Oyster Bay.
