J.J.Flash Stones' professors on duty, I don't know if this question had been discussed before.

I'd like to know for sure, the complete details concerning the performed shows in Australia in february of 73 (setlists, etc). There are many bootlegs available from this period and it's kind of confusing.

One more thing, which one Mick sings "Happy Birthday" for Nicky? This one ends with "Rip This Joint". The complete setlist, another titles this is known and date please.

I'm all ears... thanks!

justforyou Well alright! Take a look at http://www.nzentgraf.de/
The Perth show is wonderful, Mick sounds really fired up... and birthday boy Nicky.

But the nzentgraf database seems to have forgotten about Rip This Joint...

jpenn11 For info on the recordings, look at www.printmark.se/stones. You can search by year or by title.

Try the FAQ as well: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/music/rollingstones-faq/part2/

Anyone know of any Australia recordings that postdate the FAQ (>1999)?

Yep, Rip this Joint is missing! I was really confused, because I found the artwork and the one that most suits was "A Sticky Sydney Racecourse '73" bacause it has Rip This Joint and after the band introductions, Mick sings "happy bday" to Hopkins.

So, anybody, could provide me the correct artwork for the show I have. Remember, it has Rip This Joint at the end, and Mick sings "Happy Bday" to Nicky.

Thanks again!

mac_daddy great thread!

I don't know which was my favorite tour...

STP 72
winter 73
TOTA 75

the sound they had in Australia/New Zealand was definitely the rawest ever...
_____

I wish I knew where to look in the archives for that story by the cat that let Keith use his guitar. f*cking classic!!!
_____

there are two discs that have Nicky's B-Day show. One is a single disc, and one is a double disc with two shows on it. Does anybody know the dates of those shows..? One f them is also incomplete, and I can't remember which...
_____

is there anybody out there who can help me fill in the holes in my collection? I have the titles mentioned below...

what shows appear on "In Exotic Honolulu?" (I have that set, too, but don't know where to put it on the list)...

1/18 mickboy's Definitely Vintage
1/21 In Exotic Honolulu
1/22 In Exotic Honolulu
1/22 Hawain Farewell (late show)
2/11 Winter Tour-Auckland (VGP 015)
2/14
2/17
2/17
2/18
2/20
2/21
2/24
2/26 Rock and Roll Stew
2/27 Sydney Last Affair Revisited

_____

does anybody have a decent sounding "Midnight Rambler" from the Forum show..? It was the encore. I just rec'd mickboy's "definitely vintage" and Rambler is not on it The rest of the album is great...

_____

edit: did I get the Honolulu sources right?

mac_daddy maybe we could tackle this one once we get your '95 project off the ground..?
03-21-04 09:15 AM
justforyou The cool thing is the last 3 shows in Australia '73 have been released as soundboards.
03-21-04 11:00 AM
mac_daddy so this coverart info is all screwed up, right..?

according to Nico, the only show that included "Live With Me" in the setlist is 1/21 (which is d2 of "In Exotic Honolulu")...

so is d1 (of "In Exotic Honolulu") the first or second show from January 22, 1973?

oh, and a big "thank you" to the board member who sent me these discs (I kept you anonymous so you don't get barraged with requests )

I can burn the rest (I have them already)...

unless you want to throw in the second show from January 22, 1973 that you remastered; I don't have that, and if you worked on it, I am sure it sounds good
03-21-04 12:56 PM
marko so you want entire pkg?wow......i can do that,no problem

well, I mentioned that the idea of doing these projects in volumes was so that we could eventually cover the entire tour(s)

I just didn't realize you had every source of winter '73 that I did not...

needless to say, I am very excited...

____

I was figuring on doing the US shows [LA (I still am looking for the Rambler encore) and HI] as volume 1, and getting those out this week as a vine (signup is at the bottom of this post). ..

if you could burn the ones that I listed above, that would be great. Direct Copy would probably be the easiest/fastest/most efficient, etc... those could be volume 2...

and then I would put the last of the shows togethr for volume 3. I seem to remember I have the Birthday and Perth shows patched, so they are complete...

I most certainly do see that - I can't wait to hear them!!!

_____

Winter 1973 project (volume 1) sign-up is forthcoming...

mac_daddy ++++

actually, marko, I think we should seed your version of the last Honolulu show - mine ("Farewell Hawaii) has a few skips...

also do you have that horrible interuption in the middle of Brown Sugar, from d2 of the "In Exotic Honolulu" boot?

oh, hell yeah! thanks alot.

what a fabulous story
03-21-04 08:30 PM
corgi37 yeah, i remember reading that. It was from Deniz Tek, wasnt it? He only posted a couple of things, then disappeared. I think he said something about touring Europe last year. What a lucky bastard.
03-21-04 08:44 PM
stonedinaustralia yes that was him corgi

the most frustrating thing was he posted to say he had super-8 film of all the Australian '73 gigs (Would that include sound??) - and wanted a way to get them to the stones...as was pointed out to him if he passed them on to the stones they'd probably just forget about them

unfortunately there was no way he could be talked into "tree"ing them or anything like that

interesting dude is mr. tek - hailing from Ann Arbour Michigan he was the mainmain of legendary/seminal (choose adjective to taste) australian band Radio Birdman which he formed while here as a medical student in the mid - late '70's...following their split he formed "new race" which included Ron Asheton and Dennis Thompson (from the stooges and the MC5 respectively)- following a 20 break "birdman" still gig occasionally

during his absence from the rock and roll scene he then joined the US Airforce and flew jets

as i say quite an intersting person but at bottom just like you and me...just another hard-core stones freak wandering through the naked city

jpenn11 Harold,

Thanks for putting this together. It's fascinating.

The STP72 pix are great too!

Also, you usefully source the MR from LA 1973 that mac_daddy is looking for. Any hope that this MR will see the light of day?
03-22-04 10:14 AM
marko Ok,,,,,,,,,

I was figuring on doing the US shows [LA (I still am looking for the Rambler encore) and HI] as volume 1, and getting those out this week as a vine (signup is at the bottom of this post). ..

:ah do you mean La-72 shows?I have new very recording..but
they did Honky Tonk as an encore.

if you could burn the ones that I listed above, that would be great. Direct Copy would probably be the easiest/fastest/most efficient, etc... those could be volume 2...

:whatever is fine by,,,,im happy, when others are happy.

and then I would put the last of the shows togethr for volume 3. I seem to remember I have the Birthday and Perth shows patched, so they are complete...

:ok,,,,,Perth complete? 2-24-73 one?where the hell you got
that one?

actually, marko, I think we should seed your version of the last Honolulu show - mine ("Farewell Hawaii) has a few skips...

:heh,OK!!

also do you have that horrible interuption in the middle of Brown Sugar, from d2 of the "In Exotic Honolulu" boot?

:i really dont think so,,,i think mine is FINE.But i must
check it first.

03-22-04 10:41 AM
nankerphelge There is also Exile's Afternoon Revisited which has the Perth (Nicky B'Day) show and some rehearsals from Dallas '72. I have the CD and it is raw, but I like it.
