Nah...never liked it as an opener since 1990. On this tour its been weak when played as an opening song. Good on the b-stage though. Seems to work better towards the end of the shows for some reason these days.

Of all the 'warhorses', nothing beats Jumpin Jack Flash as an opening punch.

'Shattered' is an interesting choice though, and a not so obvious one. Saw them open with it at Shepherds Bush, which I think was the only time this happened. It was great.

Break The Spell JJF does kick things off well, but I also think Street Fighting Man and Paint It Black are great ways to start things off too.

agreed on SFM. I'd rather save the monolith of JJF til the final song.

Paranoid_Android I always thought that Sympathy would be a GREAT opener...w/ the drum tracks...the opening howls...and w/ a brilliant flash..."please allow me to introduce myself..."much more classier than the horrible "Start me up!"...a bit to contrived.

Loving Cup would be the ultimate opener in my hunble opinion!

Jumacfly Best opener for me is Under my thumb circa 1981.
Particulary Hampton, when the guitars join the bass after a long classic minute of Bil/ Charlie jam...

Anyway JJf is ,IMHO, cooler than SMU.
In a dream world,I d like to hear a classic rendition of Star Star or any Berry's cover that fit so perfectly with the Stones.

As much as I love "Loving Cup", I don't think it would be a great opener, its more of a good mid-show type song, like "Worried About You" and "Memory Motel". Good songs, but not good openers. Sympathy, however, could be a good opener, it has that exciting anticipation during the intro.

I used to think that...until I saw PHISH open up w/ Loving Cup here in Washington DC...back in 1995...starts off a bit mellow...but when the drums hit it...they hit it hard!!!

I think it's a harder driving song than, say, Under My Thumb...a song I truely love, mind you.

Anything would be a great change-up though...SMU is a pretty lame opener...and not a great song anyway...imo

Spru I like the idea of Sympathy as the opener, after all, it worked on Beggar's Banquet. My personal favorite from recent tours is Street Fighting Man...just those licks to open are superb. I also like the idea of Shattered. That would really be a sweet change up.

PS - Where the fuck has SFM been at all this tour?!
