From the newswires:
Queen's rock hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" has topped another poll of classic tracks - the 1970s anthem has been declared the greatest epic rock track of all time in a new poll in British music magazine Mojo.
The song beat out competition from Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and "Sympathy For The Devil" by The Rolling Stones.
The 100 tracks on the list were chosen for their "heroic, uplifting and over-the-top" qualities with each band allowed only one entry in the poll.
The top 10 is:
1. "Bohemian Rhapsody"- Queen
2. "Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin
3. "Sympathy For The Devil" - The Rolling Stones
4. "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" - Pink Floyd
5. "The End" - The Doors
6. "Wuthering Heights" - Kate Bush
7. "A Day in the Life" - The Beatles
8. "An American Trilogy" - Elvis Presley
9. "Bat Out of Hell" - Meat Loaf
10. "Macarthur Park" - Richard Harris
---------------
my only question - what the heck are Wuthering Heights, American Trilogy and Macarthur Park doing on this "rock" list?

Well if part of the criteria was being 'over the top', B. Rhapsody deserves it's place. Queen can have that mantle because that was their game.
just another poll anyway
'what is the polliest poll that ever did poll at a polling booth in Poll?'

cool to see the stones in the top 5, not sure if sympathy could be considered "an epic" in terms of stairway or b'rhap, they are much more over the top, sympathy is just cooler and rocks a bit more than being "epic" (in my opinion!), great to see "wuthering heights" there as well -thats totally over the top and very different from other pop songs, was back then and still is now! |
