sandrew The Big Four-Oh

(March 6, 2002) Although nothing's being confirmed by the Stones camp, a 40th anniversary tour seems to be in the offing for 2002.

The Stones are currently putting together that boxed set we keep hearing about, while rumors persist that a tour, consisting of arena, stadium, and theatre dates, could begin in Philadelphia during September. And it all might be preceded by tour rehearsals (and a possible warm-up gig) in Toronto. (If true, it wouldn't be the first time the Stones launched a tour in Philly or conducted tour rehearsals -- and a surprise appearance or two -- north of the border.) Either way, don't expect any official announcements (or ticket sales) for at least another two or three months.

As for the individual Stones, no solo activity is being planned as of this writing. But you can catch Ronnie Wood on the tube come March 14, as a guest of the Corrs. "The Corrs Live In Dublin" will air on VH-1 that night (as well as a repeat telecast on St. Patty's Day), and should include the Woodman's guest performance of "Little Wing" (the Hendrix classic) and "Ruby Tuesday" (the song made famous by some other group). The concert was recorded in Bray, Ireland, back in January, and might be released on CD.

If you can't wait 'til September to hear the Stones play live, you might wanna check out some of the audio clips from their 1982 tour of Europe, available on the Decades page.

And last but not least, thanks to everyone who contributed to the Engine 74 Fund, benefiting the widow and children of Firefighter Ruben Correa, who perished at the World Trade Center on 9-11. A summary of the fundraising efforts can be found here.

yellow1 hum...strange. His info is less detailed than Skippy's two weeks ago !
It doesn't make much sense to me put out a boxed set before a tour. Especially since Mick said such a project wouldn't come out before the band had slowed down to halt.
The most likely scenario is either a greatest hits double CD and/or a "new" "Tattoo You 2" CD with a few new songs and the great leftovers from the 90s (i.e. Honest Man, Make It Now, You Got It Made, etc...).
I think Mick would rather "die" than go onstage behind a boxed set/greatest hits package !
In a way, Bill German's info is consistent with the "Tattoo You 2" concept, they would be sifting through old sessions for both projects wouldn't they ? But then what would be the point of these songwritng sessions in Jamaica for a boxed set ?!

On June 16, 2001 the hit counter of the WET page was inserted here, it had 174,489 hits. Now the hit counter is for both the page and the board. The hit counter of the ITW board had 1,127,645 hits when it was closed and the Coolboard didn't have hit counter but was on line only two months and a half.
