Daethgod Stones fans move quickly for tickets
Wednesday Mar 8 18:27 AEDT

Some may be getting old, but Rolling Stones fans had to move quickly to snap up tickets for the rock legends' two Australian concerts.

All 13,000 tickets for the Stones' Rod Laver Arena gig in Melbourne on April 13 sold out within 15 minutes.

Filling Sydney's 60,000 capacity Telstra Stadium may take a little longer, but 40,000 seats had been snapped up by Wednesday afternoon after going on sale.

Promoters said they were confident of selling the remaining 20,000 seats for the rockers' much hyped Sydney stadium show on April 11.

The sales prove that even after more than 40 years in rock 'n' roll, the Stones can still pack a stadium, even with tickets priced at up to $400.

The Stones are playing just two Australian shows as part of their A Bigger Bang World Tour.

"Rolling Stones tickets went on sale at 9am this morning and the Melbourne Rod Laver Arena show sold out in 15 minutes," promoters Dainty Consolidated Entertainment said in a press release.

"Sydney's Telstra Stadium show, which is an outdoor stadium spectacular, sold over 40,000 tickets and is currently on sale.

"Fans should not delay as the Sydney show is selling fast."

Seats in Sydney range from $54.50 up to $399.50.

The Stones - Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Keith Richards and Ron Wood - announced the tour last month after nearly a year of speculation that they were heading Down Under.

They will also play two dates in New Zealand next month.

The ageing rockers played to more than 1.2 million people on 42 dates as part of the tour in 2005 and last month performed a free concert in Rio De Janeiro to more than two million people.

The Stones last toured Australia in 2003 as part of their Forty Licks World Tour, playing concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Oddly, i heard at 11.00am news Sydney's capacity will be 80,000!
8th March 2006 05:43 AM
Daethgod hey whats the best way to get to Telstra Stadium from Syd Airport ?
how far is it ?
and how do we get back to airport area after gig ?
hire car ?
cab ?

8th March 2006 05:48 AM
corgi37 Its 14 km's from Central Syd. To catch the train, you have to get onto 2 seperate lines. You have to get off at some fuck-knuckle, middle of nowhere, industrial wasteland station (I'm thinking Braybrook or St. Albans!) and then get to Olympic station. Fuck that. I'm taking the ferry from Circular Quay to Homebush Bay. You can get a all day pass for about $20.00 that covers train, bus & ferry.

Well, thats the plan anyway. Taxi would be too much money and too much hassle. Peak hour too!
8th March 2006 05:49 AM
corgi37 Check this out too. From YouTube.com. Some ace stuff there! I pray we dont get the Sth American stage. Its looks really lame.

No its not me!!!!

I wont sell my ticket on ebay. I ONLY said it was tempting thats all, because of the prices they were getting.

8th March 2006 06:05 AM
corgi37 I was only kidding man! hahaha. You will be exiled no more come April 11. You will be in from the cold, mate. I will no longer be a dog. We will be like Daeth.

GODS!!!

1 bummer. If they bring the Sth American stage - shit that is lame. Looks like something from 1982. The U.S. "on stage" stage looked awesome because of the refelective surfaces. Not that we'll care, but i want it all. If they take the U.S. stage to Japan, then we should be set.
8th March 2006 06:14 AM
Daethgod im thinking we go from airport to central, then surely there has to be a Stones Train

8th March 2006 06:33 AM
corgi37 Well, i assume so to, but ya never know. The track simply doesnt go to the stadium (i think). Makes it easier if it does. I'm sure they'll mention it though. They dont want any hassles, ala, GnR at Calder. Took us 2 1/2 hours to get out of the car park! My wife is dead keen on the ferry. hahaha.

8th March 2006 07:08 AM
corgi37 Sounds dreamy, but its a hassle. Wife works week-ends and i have to baby sit. Bringing 4 kids IS NOT something i would wish on anyone, especially my babies. They destroy everything! And you will burn the tix if you hear me play guitar! hahaha.
We'll work something out though. Did you know any one involved in surf life saving called Fiona? It's just a long-shot guess. I used to work with her and she moved down there years ago, but she's vanished now.
8th March 2006 07:43 AM
exile You guys going straight to gig?

Im not sure what im doing yet. Maybe the pub first (not too many though.

Rolling Stones tickets golden

ROLLING Stones fans who missed out on tickets may have to pay up to $2000 to see the band in Melbourne.

The general release of tickets for their only Melbourne show were gone in 15 minutes yesterday.

Fan club members and Visa customers were able to buy tickets last week for the concert at Rod Laver Arena on April 13.

Minutes after yesterday's general release, dozens of cyber-scalpers had hit internet auction site eBay. Two premium tickets -- sold for $395 each by Ticketek -- were offered for an immediate sale of $1850 by a greedy scalper.

Many of the professional eBay sellers sold U2 tickets at highly inflated prices last year.

"There's no statute that expressly prohibits the re-sale of tickets to musical concerts through places like eBay," an eBay spokesman told the Herald Sun last night.

"It's our view tickets should be treated like other consumer goods: if you've gone out and paid for an item, it's yours and you don't need it any more, you should be able to re-sell it."

Rolling Stones promoter Paul Dainty limited the number of tickets one person could buy to six to stop bulk-buying scalpers.

The eBay spokesman suggested promoters restrict sales even further to stamp out scalping.

But Mr Dainty said eBay should control what is sold on its site.

"They don't have to accept those auctions. The promoters, the Government, eBay and the public need to come up with some plan to eliminate this or it will become a growing issue as it has in other parts of the world."

corgi37 Tix in Melb on ebay for around your spot Daeth now up to $1,500.

Exile - I have thought about this, and indeed, discussed it with Dr. Daeth.

I dont really wanna drink before hand. Maybe a few at the stadium. I dont wanna have to piss 2-3 times during the show. I'm smuggling in a flask of vodka, and that will keep me going.

But, afterwards, lets destroy Sydney!!!! I reckon the Hard Rock. Corny, i know, but lets face it, not much open on a Tuesday at around midnight, and they may have a Stones theme night. Indeed, ya never know who might pop in.
8th March 2006 10:16 PM
exile I reckon the hard rock will close early on tuesday. Its not too busy over that way during the week.

I could be wrong though.

9th March 2006 05:33 AM

Newtown is also an Awesome place lots of seedy bars with werd people, open late. cheapish drinks

The casino is a fuckin awful cheesy place, (but true it never closes) I think we would be selling ourselves short going there.

there are heaps better places than casino, unless you want to gamble, of course. Pubs at casino can be full of middle easter youths who want to fight etc.

Let me think some more, tuesday is a funny night.

10th March 2006 02:44 AM
corgi37 Newtown! We are miles from there. Grrr. Think. Think, think, think.
14th March 2006 07:41 AM
corgi37 Just checked on ticketek for best available seats.

Only "gold" left. Very back row, right up the side, top deck. Worst seats in the joint.

They'll probably give them away.
14th March 2006 05:41 PM
Daethgod yer saw that too
man these shows in Oz are going rock !

hope to fark we get Worried About You and a couple of other gems

14th March 2006 05:52 PM
corgi37 Yeah, hope we get at least a couple of special songs. Sway is my dream song. Worried about you and Faraway Eyes would be much appreciated too. Though maybe Faraway Eyes will be saved for Melb arena show.

I'm hoping Night time and its IORR are out, and we at least get Rambler, LSTNT, PIB and She so cold. And no YGMR!!

And, though i dont really like it, i think Ruby Tuesday would be an awesome sing along.

Those B6 seats, the ones right next to the B stage, are going for $870 on ebay.
14th March 2006 06:17 PM
Daethgod geez
hey i got this email from Dainty after i ranted about scalping scum asking for $2600 for 2 Front Row Melb tix :

Dear Peter,

Thank you for your email in relation to The Rolling Stones.

At this point in time, there are no laws against scalping in any state (with the exception of specified sporting events such as the AFL Grand Final). Until there are laws making it illegal, there is nothing we can do to comprehensively stop the unauthorised on-selling of tickets.

The industry maintains a 'buyer beware' stance on the purchase of tickets from scalpers - meaning that tickets should be purchased through an authorised Ticketing Agent or on-seller to ensure validity. Unauthorised on-selling of tickets is a breach of the conditions of sale and results in such tickets being invalid.

However, Ebay offers its users the convenience of anonymity, which makes it very difficult for us to identify who the scalper is or exactly what ticket they are selling.

Prior to the Rolling Stones tickets going on sale, we met with Ebay representatives to try to stop the sort of scalping you have identified. However, EBay will not assist until such time as there is legislation in place requiring them to do so. EBay collects commissions from such scalpers (which actually increase the higher the scalped ticket price), but until we get the same sort of legislation applying to music events as there is for the AFL Grand Final and in many states in the US, EBay will do nothing.

Kind regards,
DCE
