Austin turned on an iconic performance overnight when The Who's Pete Townshend joined The Faces' Ian McLagan on stage for a set to honor the late Faces bass player Ronnie Lane.
Lane and McLagan predated The Faces as the Small Faces while Pete Townshend recorded the 1977 album 'Rough Mix' with Lane. Together, they performed 'Christy Lied' from 'Rough Mix'.
The combination of talents and bands wrote the setlist automatically. McLagan opened the set with the 'A Nod Is As Good As A Wink' track 'You're So Rude', which was written by Lane.
A surprise inclusion was the 1967 stateside hit 'Itchycoo Park'. McLagan told the story of how he hated performing the song with the Small Faces but included it last night by way of an apology".
Another interesting inclusion was Small Faces very first single 'What'cha Gonna Do About It' which gave Townshend the chance to take center stage and play his guitar.
Ian McLagan is now a resident of Austin. Townshend is preparing to launch his new website The Method in April.
The Method will allow users to collaborate online, customize songs and share copyright
