I love the banter on the U2 vs Stones topic.

My wife loves U2 as much as I love the Stones.

Here is an interesting comparison. The stars never align perfectly but:

The Stones released 'The Rolling Stones' in 1963 (t = 1 for Stones).

U2 Released 'Boy' in 1980 (t = 1 for U2).

Assuming the first album release equals year 1:

The Stones released 'Undercover' in their 20th year (1983).

U2 released 'All You Can't Leave Behind' in their 21st year (2000).

The Stones released 'Dirty Work' (1986) in their 23rd year (1986).

U2 released 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' in their 25th year (2004).

The Stones released 'Steel Wheels' in their 26th year (1989).

MarshallG Cut me some slack will ya !

I'm probably digging myself a hole here but as it is clear I can't get any lower (subject to conjecture) I will explain.

I was bagging U2's album to my wife (a mad U2 fan) and she asked what the Stones had released when they were at the "How To .." stage of their career. I worked out it was Steel Wheels, a triumphant album that whooped "How To..."'s butt.

Having worked it out, I shared with this all-caring forum.

I've hit bedrock so I can't dig any further down.

Riffhard MG don't let the bastards get ya down.

However,I will say this, and this should end any and all comparisons. In 1992 U2 released Achtung Baby. By all accounts it was a pretty good record. Even if you despise U2 you can not argue logically that this record sucks. It doesn't. So twelve years after their inception U2 releases a very good record by all accounts.

Now lets take a look at what the Stones released in roughly the same time frame for themseleves. In 1972 the Stones released Exile On Main Street!

Any questions?

Game. Set. Match. Stones!
