_Boomy_ Earlier I listened to the "Conquest" EP from the White Stripes. Shortly after, I listened to Beck's "Sea Change".

Now I have "Core" by STP playing. It's on the last song ("Where the River Goes"), so it's almost over....

Ooh! That's a good one!

I have another version of the same song on right now - 2/27/69, Fillmore West. Probably in my top 3 faves as far as The Other One goes. It's downright nightmarish...

Zack Speaking of the Dead's So Many Roads box and the Other One, the version of that song on the box, from the Live/Dead run, is among my favorites ever. Are we talking about the same one?

Also, I love the Spanish Jam>US Blues thingy so much I downloaded the entire show from Miami 6-23-74. It definitely has a weird vibe, in part from some major technical kinks in the Wall of Sound. Kind of ethereal, with the vocals so high you can hear all the bum notes incredibly clearly. How Donna Jean sounded that night . . . don't get me started. Well, sort of like a cat whose tail's just been stepped on.

That's the one! As if anyone thought that maybe that Dark Star > St. Stephen from that night was just a fluke... well, the proof's in The Other One: They weren't flukes. That was just a solid night.

I've only heard a few cuts from the Miami show. I'm sort of love-hate with '74 stuff. Some things, like Eyes of the World, WRS, and Stella Blue, are magical from that year. But too much of it just doesn't have enough "oomph" for me.
