Sir Stonesalot >With one post you shook the board, SS. There's no denying.<

I wish I didn't have to do it. I don't like being a heavy negative vibe merchant. I prefer to be the fun lovin' knight of the round table. But sometimes ya just gotta shake things up. Ya gotta set things straight and tell it like it is.

I'm sure I said a bunch of stuff no one really wanted to hear. And I do want to clarify something....I never said that the state of the board was entirely JB/Josh's fault. It isn't all their fault. But a nice chunk of the blame is theirs, there can be no denying that. I know they didn't INTEND for it to be like that...at least I hope they didn't intend for this to happen. But it did happen, and now it's time to move on and fix what has been damaged. I'd rather be part of the solution, than part of the problem. I'm not gonna make excuses for them. I'm not going to be one of their enablers. I'm just trying to ruffle some feathers and get people to thinking. Maybe someone smarter than me can figure out a better way to get back on track. Whatever man, that's fine by me. I just want Rocks Off to go back to normal. We used to have so much fun. Why is that a bad thing?

kath i think all the boards are verging on being tedious, confrontational and dead-ish.

but this board is the best i've ever been on, and there are some incredibly funny people here. we just need some stones, that's all.

i will admit to "leaving" several times over the last couple of years because of the josh issue. but my problem with josh did not start here, it just kinda bled over to this board.

i think we can have a great board here with the people we have....glencar, sirstones, GYPSY, my precious joeykins, juma...there are some great folks here!!

" When Henry Hill first lived in Nebraska 20 years ago, newly integrated into the federal Witness Protection Program, he couldn't find good Italian food.

"Can't even get decent food" is one of his character's lines in "GoodFellas," the 1990 Martin Scorsese film based on Hill's life as a Mafia wiseguy. "Right after I got here, I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce, and I got egg noodles and ketchup."

These days, if Hill wants good Italian food, he makes it himself.

He has just finished revamping the menu at the Firefly restaurant in North Platte, Neb., after recently moving to the town.

Hill, 61, is enjoying life as a chef, but he's best known as the antihero of "GoodFellas," the classic film that featured Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, with Ray Liotta as Hill. The film was based on the book "Wiseguy," which Nicholas Pileggi wrote with Hill's cooperation.

Hill, who is no longer in the Witness Protection Program, now seems a little tired of the Hollywood lifestyle he later got caught up in.

An early afternoon call to the Firefly on Wednesday found the one-time mobster unable to come to the phone because he was making one last sandwich for a customer.

Speaking after the day's lunch rush, Hill said he'd found a home in North Platte.

He and his wife, who has family in the area, had been visiting the city regularly for some time. A few months back, they decided to move there. The job at the Firefly quickly followed.

"I haven't been working much for the last 20 years. I've been making do with that Hollywood nonsense," Hill said, speaking quickly and with a still distinctive New York accent.

"I'm sick of that. I've got one or two more movies to make and that's it. Then I'll have very little to do with it, if I can help it. Leave it to them; those people make me crazy."

He got the job at the Firefly through its owner, who he said is his goddaughter.

The former gangster has always enjoyed cooking.

"It's therapy for me," he said. "It's my artwork."

He unveiled his new menu, heavy on the southern Italian fare he spotlighted in his book "The Wiseguy Cookbook," on Valentine's Day. The restaurant's official grand opening under its new management is next Friday.

"We've completely changed over," Hill said. "Everything is homemade, the sauce is made fresh daily, by myself. Fresh basil, fresh clams - you know what I'm talking about."

Hill's menu includes hot and cold antipasto, clams casino, Henry's signature meatballs, veal and chicken parmigiana, and veal and chicken scampi, among other dishes.

His Sicilian-style pizza already has proved popular.

"I make the best pizza there is," Hill said.

The restaurant's popularity took Hill by surprise, and he acknowledged that his notoriety may have provided the initial draw.

"I think they come for that reason at first, but then they can't get over the food. So it's a good way to get them in here and get them back," he said. "We are so jammed here . . . really, we were unprepared, but we're making it."

North Platte isn't the first Nebraska town that Hill has called home. When he and his family were initially put into the Witness Protection Program 20 years ago, they were relocated to Omaha.

And that "GoodFellas" line, about the "egg noodles and ketchup"?

"That was Omaha," said Hill, who was living in the western part of the city, near the Jewish Community Center.

Hill hasn't completely given up the entertainment business.

"I've still got commitments out there which I have to honor, and I will," he said.

His two current projects include a sequel to "GoodFellas," and a film about a college basketball scandal. He also has written "Gangsters and Goodfellas" (his life story) and "A Goodfella's Guide to New York" (a New York tour guide).

But for now, Hill is settled in North Platte.

"I've been coming here a couple of years," he said. "My wife's daughter lives here, my grandkids. It's been back and forth, so I said the heck with it.

"Now I'm going to build a little place on an acreage and grow my own tomatoes and basil. Basil's so difficult to get around here."

Did you see one of those 20/20 or Primetime Live specials where Henry Hill's son and daughter were interviewed?
They HATE their father and have no contact with him anymore. He was a real bastard to them. Then, the interviewer showed Henry the tape of the interviews, and he seemed rather nonchalant about it.
They made his character all cool in "Goodfellas."

" BRIGHT EYES LYRICS "

"When The President Talks To God"

" When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute all down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
I wonder which one plays the better cop
We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke
No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
That's what God recommends

When the president talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the president talks to God

When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the president talks to God?

I doubt it

I doubt it .................. ( fade to Baby Steelie ) "

" Crime still has bit part in the life of ex-mobster

BY STEPHEN BUTTRY "

" After years of hiding from the mob, then finding Hollywood fame, Henry Hill slips back into crime and violence. This time it's small-time - drunken driving, disturbing the peace, hitting his wife with a telephone receiver.

Again he flees to Nebraska, only this time he's not in the Witness Protection Program but skipping court hearings and arrest warrants for misdemeanors in Wenatchee, Wash. Trouble continues - he's charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine.

His wife gets involved, going to jail for drunken driving and assaulting the ex-mobster. She asks for temporary release from jail to have emergency surgery to repair a leaking breast implant.

Like the first "GoodFellas," the sequel could be based on the real life of Henry Hill, who was played by Ray Liotta in the Oscar-winning 1990 film.

Hill recently has been in the news, talking about the fine Italian food he was cooking up at the Firefly, a North Platte restaurant. He lived briefly in Omaha while in the Witness Protection Program.

Since leaving federal protection, Hill has talked in newspaper interviews and on radio and television about his life in the mob, his Hollywood hobnobbing with Liotta, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci and his passion for Italian food.

He hasn't talked so much about his more recent legal problems, but he acknowledged them in a telephone interview Tuesday.

Hill had an explanation for the drugs North Platte police say were found in a bag he left at the airport in August: "Obviously someone placed them there."

He has used the drugs in the past, Hill said, but not recently. He said he has been off drugs for about two years.

According to court records, on Aug. 14, Hill arrived at the airport in North Platte too late to check his bags for a trip to Denver. He left three bags at the airport and flew to Denver anyway.

Airport employees, following policy, searched the bags. They called police after finding a syringe and four glass tubes with residue. The affidavit filed seeking Hill's arrest said he admitted the seized items were his. Court records said one tube tested positive for cocaine and another tested positive for meth.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 18.

Hill said he isn't sure how vigorously he will fight the charge, a Class IV felony. "If the plea bargain is reasonable, I'll just plead," he said.

He pleaded guilty to a 2003 Lincoln County misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace and served two days in jail.

In a document filed in Lincoln County Court, Probation Officer Cindi Brown said both Henry and Kelly Hill "have a serious history of drug/alcohol issues." She recommended, and a judge agreed, that a no-contact order that followed Kelly's arrest be lifted for them to receive counseling together. But just for counseling.

"I have informed both of them that living together is not an option at this time," Brown said in her Jan. 19 report.

Kelly Hill, who is Henry's second wife, was placed on probation after her first drunken-driving conviction in November in Lincoln County. Probation was revoked and she was ordered to serve seven days for drunken driving after pleading guilty to third-degree domestic assault, a misdemeanor.

She was sentenced Feb. 17 to 45 days for the Jan. 10 assault on Henry.

"We were having an argument. We'd both been drinking," Henry explained. "She was intoxicated. It's no big deal."

Court records show that Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull on Monday approved a temporary release for Kelly Hill to have surgery to repair a breast implant. She has a doctor's appointment Thursday.

In Washington state, Chelan County District Judge Thomas Warren was surprised to learn that Henry Hill was in Nebraska, but not surprised to learn he was in trouble. "He's supposed to be here on a warrant I've issued," Warren said.

Actually, two warrants. Henry Hill has not completed the terms of his Washington probation on 2003 charges of drunken driving and violating an order to avoid contact with Kelly. That no-contact order stemmed from the assault in which Henry hit her with a telephone receiver. He received a one-year sentence, but the judge suspended most of the sentence.

Warren said Henry Hill has not completed the alcohol treatment required by his probation. He also failed to appear for a hearing on his probation violations last March 23. Because the offenses were misdemeanors, the judge said Hill could not be extradited.

Hill said Tuesday he knew about the Washington warrants and didn't complete the alcohol treatment program because he moved to Nebraska. Hill said he plans to return to Washington to do his jail time, "maybe this summer."

"Hey, I'm not perfect," Hill said Tuesday, adding that he hadn't been in "any major trouble."

He recounted work he has done with law enforcement authorities since becoming an informant in 1979, including recent work with the cold-case squad in New York. "I stumble occasionally, but I also do a lot of good."
