Iraans persbureau: Bin Laden opgepakt
TEHERAN - Het Iraanse staatspersbureau IRNA meldde zaterdagochtend dat de terroristenleider Osama bin Laden in een afgelegen gebied in Pakistan is opgepakt. De aanhouding zou hebben plaatsgevonden in de zogenoemde Tribal Area (stammengebied) aan de grens met Afghanistan.
Volgens een Iraans persbureau is Osama bin Laden opgepakt.
In een uitzending in het Pashtun - een van de talen die ook in Afghanistan wordt gesproken - meldde de Iraanse staatsradio dat het bezoek van de Amerikaanse minister van Defensie Rumsfeld aan Pakistan, donderdag, te maken had met de aanhouding. De aanhouding zou 'geruime tijd geleden' hebben plaatsgevonden, maar de Amerikaanse president Bush zou die willen onthullen 'als de Amerikaanse verkiezingen worden gehouden'.
Een functionaris van de staatsradio vertelde aan het persbureau IRNA dat de aanhouding van de terroristenleider was bevestigd door een 'zeer betrouwbare bron in Peshawar'.
Osama bin Laden is volgens de Verenigde Staten en hun bondgenoten het brein achter de aanslagen van 11 september 2001 in de Verenigde Staten.
Een woordvoerder van de Pakistaanse strijdkrachten heeft volgens het Japanse persbureau Kyodo ontkend dat er van een aanhouding sprake is.
