wkoetke To carry along with your metaphor, what you and so many others fail to understand (or DO understand but won't admit it) is that the Rat is a cowardly creature that has been supplying the insects with poison for their stings all along. So it makes logical sense - for those actually able to think logically - that going after the Rat can solve a big part of the insect problem, possibly bigger than going after the individual insects. The insects can't get all this poison on their own - they need Rats to make it all happen. It's amazing to think people can't understand this, but I stand amazed.

That's ONE way to look at it, my esteemed C10 Brother. (And PLEASE know, all of you sabre-rattlers, that despite my unpopular pinko peacenik ideas, all I care about HERE is that we all love the Stones.)

Here's another way to look at it:

Group 2 has been stung by an insect. A very NASTY insect, one with a deadly, poisonous bite. Enraged by the worst sting they'd ever suffered in their lives, Group 2 decided to go hunting for the nasty insect. They armed themselves with all the weapons that had once made them feel safe from bear attacks and the like and went after the bug. However, their weapons were not particularly effective against bugs. They shot and shot, and once in awhile by accident they took out a bug or two, but still there were no results to compare with that horrible stinging. While they were out there shootin' stuff up, the "leader" of Group 2 remembered where there was a rat who had once bit his daddy. So they decided to go over to the rat's place and shoot it.

SOME of the people in Group 2 said "Hey, I thought we were killing bugs. What does this RAT have to do with bugs?" And the bug hunters, who had since convinced themselves that the Rat is a member of the Insect family, said that THOSE people were unpatriotic and were probably Rat/Bugs themselves. They looked at their big glistening bear rifles and were pretty doggone impressed with themselves.

So one day Group 2 attacked the Rathole with every gun, bomb, bottle and rock they had. That very same day the insects, who weren't anywhere near the Rathole, came over and stung them even worse than they'd been stung before.

Pretty soon everybody killed everyone else, and when the dust cleared there was nothing left but Keith Richards. And the insects. Because everyone knows you can't kill bugs with bear rifles.

nankerphelge FPM, you know I respect you and your opinion even though I disagree. I don't disagree that it is ugly and that alot of innocent people will be killed in the process. But the big difference in my mind is that we are not out to purposely kill innocents as was done to us. This country, by and large, doesn't use such tactics. I think if we could go in and take out just the leader and his military, I have no doubt we would. But this man has raped his country of its riches and used it to promote true evil -- evil that has killed his own people, his neighbors, and coming soon to a town near you.

This country faces a very assymetric threat -- it would be great if we could adjust our military to address just that threat. But we are not that nimble -- we are good at fast and overwhelming force. Our enemies know that, and they use it against us. In my mind, we cannot let the enemy use our weakness to paralyze us into inaction.

As for the argument about "shouldn't we be going after all the bad guys then." That is just a silly. First, this country has never made a habit of going after countries without some justification -- if anything, we habitually rebuild that which we first destroy. Second, even if thought all the bad guys needed to be dealt with, why would we open up multiple fronts and try to wage numerous wars simultaneously unless we had to? North Korea is flexing a bit -- maybe we will send them a message soon.

The bad guys have shown both their capability and intent to do us grave harm. I see no reason not to deprive them of the ability to do it again. If Saddam is the first to go -- so be it. He's dangerously close to having nuclear capability and that needs to be stopped before we have a true renegade state in the Middle East with the bomb. North Korea is already there and so the stake of confrontation are far higher. North Korea has a bargaining chip and they are trying to see what it's worth. In the long run, I think they will realize that it is a chip we will both see and raise!

FPM C10 Whatever. I knew I shoulda kept my trap shut. I don't know why warmongers get so uptight about dissenting opinions - you're all gonna get what you want, and soon. And we'll see how it goes.

I just wanted to let the many non-Americans on the board know that not all of us want war or think it will do anything but fuck things up worse than they already are.

Anyway...what's up with Victoria's Secret using "Love Sick" to sell brassieres? I didn't know that song was about breasts and their accoutrements ...pardon my French...but then again, when you get right down to it, I guess that's what EVERYTHING's about.

Thanks FPM, but (in Holland at least) the papers and tv mention that fact. We do know that not all Americans are war minded. Just wanna tell you that.

nankerphelge Pattie, I certainly did not mean to hurt your feelings. If I did, I sincerely apoligize. I do respect dissenting opinions, as I did FPM's. I attempted to articulate my position without casting any stones against those with differing views. I realize that this is a heated topic and I have, until now, stayed out of the fray.

And, for the record, I don't consider myself a war monger. I am not a "war for war's sake" kind of guy. For the same reason, I don't toss anyone that is against the war into a pile with a label.

I do believe, however, that war is a fact of life. It has existed, and will continue to exist, as long as people populate this Earth. We can try to understand it, avoid it, and seek other solutions. But to say it is never a viable option is, to my way of thinking, a recipe for failure when your adversary is prepared to defeat you. That to me is just basic self preservation.

Anyhow, if I have offended, I again apologize.

Now back to our regularly scheduled crotch-shot...

Nellcote Pattie;

I am not wavering one bit on this Iraq matter.

Saddam failed to abide by 17 different agreements he signed off on by the UN, since 1991.

Saddam says he has no missles, then mysteriously he comes up with them, says he is complying with agreements by destroying them.

He still is blocking access to all locations the UN has asked him for, yes blocking locations he agreed to allow the UN access to.

His handwriting is all over documents found in Al Qaeda operatives locations in Afganistan.

He wiped out a town of 25,000 people with nerve gas in Iraq.

He kiled his own son in law.

He killed the Kurds in the North in 1991 by the thousands.

What we have here, pardon my lifting this expression, is a failure to communicate, by Saddam.

Go ask any one of the 3000 families who had relatives die on 9/11, if Saddam's handprints on that day mean anything to them. That's right. 3000 US people in one day.

Just a drop in the bucket in the 30 year rein of terror with Mr. Nice Guy Saddam.

Why do we have to put up with this type of behavior any longer, because he will continue his rein of terror if not stopped.

Lock & Load, Let's Get Saddam, NOW!

Might I ask you do the same?...correct me if I'm wrong but pro-war is a distinct opinion...if your feelings are going to be hurt when someone disagrees with you, vehemently...then a good idea would be to abstain from such discussions...

Maxlugar Saddam has been around for 30 fuckng years, most of the shit he has was given to him by the yanks themselves.

That is not true. If you did your homework on that one, you'd see France, Russia and China and probably North Korea have given Iraq most of their weapons.

Do you remember the Gulf War when we took out all those Russian tanks and French and Russian planes?

Please.

And the Germans gave them loads of poisons to play with. The Germans were good with the poison, remember?

This is one of the reasons why France and Russia are so against us. When we uncover all the illegal weapon stockpiles, we will see that most come from them.

It will be a great moment in history for people like me who love to laugh.

Let all compare posts after the war, OK?

Waaa ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

Riffhard The one fact that keeps haunting me is this. The Iraqi people are begging for the USA to take action against Saddam. Yes,that's right folks! The Iraqi people are becoming much more out spoken against Saddam and anxiously are awaiting liberation. This is a fact that can not be overlooked. It does seem a bit perplexing that the ones doing all the protesting are not Iraqis. On the contrary, the Iraqis themselves want the protesters to shut the fuck up!

The old saying,"walk a mile in my shoes",comes to mind. These poor people have been living with this meglomaniacal saddistic fuck for over thirty years now. They can't wait for the bombs to drop. Yet,some well meaning, but very ignorant,Westerners are speaking out against any military action. The "human sheilds" from the West are already telling stories about the Iraqi people asking them to please go home and shut up! Why do you suppose that is?

Oh,you don't beleive me? Then read this.

http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=6463

This link is one that Maxy provided on the Kushkin board. It tells the story that many in the liberal media, both in the US and abroad, always ignore. Mainly, what do the people of Iraq want? How anyone who has never lived under such tyranny speak for the people that have is absurd! Read the article and learn from it. Iraqi men are asking how they can assist the American and British forces! Unbelievable? Absolutly not! They want Saddam dead. Soon THEIR WISH will be granted.

Riffhard

PS-A question that has never been answered by any of the protesters is this. Why are you not carrying signs insisting that Saddam disarm and open his country up for the UN? Why not protest against the man who is directly responsible for this whole sorrid mess,Saddam? Why? Why?!
03-06-03 12:20 PM

I think every country needs an army and if you're a small country you have to be in the NATO, what France and Germany did was sooooooo wrong, they blew p the NATO!!!

I am against the war as you know, but what they do is just stupid!

parmeda 'SHUT UP, YOU MONKEY. CURSE BE UPON YOUR MUSTACHE'

CHICAGO SunTimes
March 6, 2003

BY ADNAN MALIK

DOHA, Qatar--Iraq's envoy called a Kuwaiti diplomat a ''monkey'' and a ''traitor'' in a rare public display of divisions at an Islamic forum convened Wednesday to seek a unified stance against any U.S.-led war on Iraq.

The angry name-calling, broadcast live on satellite television, was the second time in a week Arabs across the region got to watch tensions usually kept behind closed doors erupting between their leaders.

The gathering of the Organization of the Islamic Conference at which the spat took place made little diplomatic progress. The leaders rejected any military strike against Iraq.

It was the third high-level gathering in the region in a week aimed at staving off war. It came as calls grew stronger for Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to leave office and go into exile.

After Kuwait's foreign minister used his speech to the summit to call on Saddam to step down to avert war, Iraq's Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri accused the Kuwaiti minister in his own speech of ''threatening Iraq's security at the core'' by allowing U.S. troops on Kuwaiti soil.

Sheik Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, another Kuwaiti minister, interrupted al-Douri, calling the Iraqi's remarks lies.

Al-Douri responded: ''Shut up, you monkey. Curse be upon your mustache, you traitor.'' ''Mustache'' is a traditional Arabic term for honor.

''This is hypocrisy and falsehood,'' Sheik Mohammed shot back.

The exchange was reminiscent of a squabble Saturday at an Arab League summit convened in Egypt to discuss the Iraq crisis. There, Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah objected to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's remarks about Persian Gulf countries' willingness to host American forces.

Gadhafi said Saudi King Fahd had acknowledged to him a willingness to ''cooperate with the devil'' to protect his country from Iraq during the 1990-91 Gulf crisis. Abdullah called Gadhafi ''an agent for colonizers.'' AP
