Rolling Stones to be preserved for future generations
Mick Jagger
One of the Rolling Stones most famous songs has been selected as an historic work to be preserved for future generations.
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction was written by Dartford-born rockers Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in 1965 and has now been chosen for preservation by the US Library of Congress.
The song, which was the Stones’ first US number one, will enter the National Recordings Registry, which preserves historic works.
Also selected is President Roosevelt's address to the US Congress in 1941 seeking a declaration of war against Japan.
Every year 25 recording are placed in the archive after being nominated by the public and selected experts.
All works must be at least 10 years old and "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".
Also going in this year are Blue Suede Shoes by Carl Perkins, A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke and the 1967 LP The Velvet Underground and Nico – often described as the most influential album of all time.
