Keith is a socialist???? Most socialists don't operate the way he does. Don't use 40 yr old quotes to make your case. |

I read something by (I believe) George Will which was a somewhat different take on the campaign finance issue. He supported allowing people to contribute as much as they wanted to whomever they wanted. The rationale he gave is that when contributions are limited to small amounts, only the already well known candidates can raise enough money for a serious campaign these days. When somebody who is less well known is well-financed, he might still be able to win if his funds garner him enough publicity. Kinda like in the old days when there was supposed to be a real democratic process. Frankly, I think that is not a bad idea. However, I believe that contributors of money over a certain amount (e.g. $1,000.00) and their affiliations must be disclosed. That way, the electorate can judge not only the candidate but also the source of his campaign funding. The current system practically ensures that incumbents will be elected absent political outrage such as what occurred in 1994 and 2006.
I'm not sure of the constitutionality of it but public financing seems to be the fairest way. The way things are now, PAC's wield tremendous influence & poeple like John F. Kerry have to spend hours on the phone with losers from Des Moines trying to raise funds! |

Rudy would like us to remember him from 9/11 forward....many of us who knew Rudy before, understand why he would be a terrible choice for the White House. |

If he can't capture the fireman's vote, howe is he going to win the big one?
I'm a pyro, by the way. I love to lit fires and stare at them. So me and Rudy have something in common despite our racial differences. |

Um Kerry had their endorsement last time around, so...
Those of us who lived and worked in NYC know Rudy Giuliani to be an incredibly good choice to run this country. |

He seems very good and competent, but I don't know much about him yet.
I was just kidding about the firemen. The irrelevancy of gaining or not gaining a fireman's union vote kind of caught my eye, so I made a poor stab at some sarcasm.
In any case, he'll never win because of his heritage, so it a moot boat point whether they want Guliani or not.
It nation time, btw. And you know what that means. |
