Topic: what're your Top Five fav recent bands? Return to archive Page: 1 2 3
1st March 2007 11:43 AM
Lethargy My "recent", let's lay some arbitrary ground rules and mean it to say "bands that have been around for 10 years or less", preferably even more recent. Because I already know you guys like Stones, Who, Beatles, Faces, etc.

Plus, I want to listen to some new stuff, which my collection and listening repertoire are sadly devoid of (exhibit A: my Moody Blues show attendance last week).

Do tell...

The Jeff Beck Band
The New York Dolls
Jethro Tull
The Clash
Talking Heads
The Replacements

PartyDoll MEG Lethargy..you had better try Sway's list first..

Listen to some Clash!!!

Now with "new rock" you have to determine if you want happy rockers or depressing rockers.

Sorta happy rock: Golden Smog
Raconteurs
New Pornographers
The Killers
Bernard Fanning

The rest: Snow Patrol
Wilco (borderline 10 years)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Deadstring Brothers

And light-hearted folk rock: Jackie Greene
Josh Kelley
Griffin House

This is just the beginners list. Sometimes it just takes a long long time to make a change

Honky Tonk Man I liked Glencar's list. It put a smile on my face. The Pussycat Dolls as an opener? How I wish!

I don't get he word 'current' as many of the bands listed have been around for years, or are we just mentioning bands younger than the Stones!

I think The Killers are the only current band who really get me going at he moment. All the other half decent ones I can take or leave.

HTM(!) my list was meant to make people smile. Most of what I hear these days is simply unacceptable. Highly derivative & unchallenging.

Well, The Blinding EP!

They've recently signed with Parlophone, so we'll hopefully be getting a new album this year.
