MrGlimmerTwin Side a:
Blue
Wired All Night
Wandering Spirit
Joy
Lonely At The Top
Party Doll

Side B:
Throwaway
She's The boss
Lucky Day
Don't Look Back(with Peter Tosh)
Out Of Focus
Too Far Gone

Bonus Song On Irish CD: Wild Colonial Boy(the drunken balladry from "Ned Kelly").

This I think would be my top 12 jagger solo numbers.Maybe his solo catalogue is underrated just a tad? I consider "wandering spirit" to be a classic album, just love it.Even the much maligned "Goddess..",while not as good as WS,and including a few filler tunes, has some really great songs.Under the lavish production of "Goddess.." lie some very well crafted ditties. The first 2 albums, not classic, and maybe over pop-ified,have their moments too.
Any opinions?? Surely I can't be the only one who admires Sir Micks' Solo output??

Miss U. I also like his solo stuff.

Hard to put them in order, but my faves:

Sweet Thing
Running Out Of Luck
Visions Of Paradise
Lucky Day
Hideaway
Too Far Gone
Just Another Night
Half A Loaf
Wandering Spirit
She's The Boss (funny)
Put Me In The Trash
Angel In My Heart

Child of the Moon I think ANY Mick Jagger compilation would have to include Evening Gown. That's an undisputable classic. I have yet to hear all of Primitive Cool, but if it's any worse than She's the Boss, chances are I won't get very far through it. I dunno... She's the Boss is OKAY, but not a record I'd write home about.

Tell you what - Lonely at the Top can go on it, She's the Boss can go on it, and the version of Just Another Night from Live Aid could be on it.

Not sure about Primitive Cool at this moment.

From Wandering Spirit, I'd include Evening Gown, Handsome Molly, Don't Tear Me Up, Wandering Spirit, and Out of Focus.

From Goddess, I'd put on Visions of Paradise, God Gave Me Everything, Too Far Gone, Don't Call Me Up, and the single Blue. I'd also HAVE to put on Memo From Turner and Wild Colonial Boy, because no Jagger comp would be complete without them.

Finally, I would definitely NOT include Dancing in the Street with Bowie. Ugh.

steel driving hammer How could you all forget Evening Gown?

I like She's The Boss alot.

I still play that album blistering loud sometimes.

Fucking rocks.

Gimme Shelter What does everybody think of the movie, "Running Out Of Luck" that Mick made for video when "She's the Boss" was released. I like it, especially when Mick's in the store in Rio and he's trying to tell the clerks who he is and he finds a Stones album in a bin and puts it on and still have no clue who he is. I thought it was pretty entertaining. Rae Dong Chong was pretty hot then too!!!!

FPM C10 I always have a hard time listening to an entire solo Jagger album. I get to about the third song and say: well this would be good if Charlie was drumming, and ooooh say Keith & Woody on guitars?

HOWEVER, looking at these lists, Mick COULD have a very listenable greatest hits disc, and if you wanted to expand the scope a bit and include "Memo From Turner" (the soundtrack version) as his FIRST solo song, and some of the Red Devils stuff, and the stuff with Jimmy Rogers....you could end up with a good double.

MY favorite solo Mick song is "Long Black Veil" with the Cheiftains. THAT is spooky and incredibly good. So let's put that on there too.

Thing is, judging from the overall bearing of his solo career, Mick would overthink the playlist and end up screwing it up. Or putting Bette Midler and Michael Jackson duets on it.

And it would probably have a really dumb cover photo too.

He'd better leave US handle this!

FPM C10

<-------- Hey FPM, you spelled "Chieftains" wrong. DUH!

I know, little FPM'73, I know!What a drag it is getting old!

Hey, did you and Maxy '83 ever find a shirtless accordian player? You guys have to play some polkas at Joey and Gypsy's wedding!

gypsymofo60 Yeah! I think the critics, and the record buying public were a bit harsh on Mick, there's some good stuff spread throughout his solo stuff. She's The Boss suffered because it wasn't a Stones album, Primitive Cool was canned long before anyone even heard it. WS is a brilliant album! I still haven't listened a great deal to GITD, but it seems resonably on par with the others........The list!...No 'Radio Control'?....No 'Mother Of A Man'?

Fiji Joe What? No War Baby?

You got the pants on...now you the boss

Miss U. Re--RUNNING OUT OF LUCK.

I like it alot, especially the part where he's in the casino with Rae DC, and he gets up from his table, camps himself up and goes onstage to perform for her.

lonecrapshooter I liked all of Mick's solo stuff up esp. Wandering Spirit until Goddesss In The Doorway. Someday I guess I'll play it again and maybe it will be a more pleasant experience. I did use Hang On To Me Tonight recently as the first dance at my wedding. Use Me with Lenny Kravitz is great. Interestingly, many chicks also really dig that one I have found. Long Black Veil is also a favorite of mine. I usually see the Chieftains in NY on 3/17 but they are not playing here this year

glencar "Say You Will" from PC is sublime. "Kow Tow" isn't too bad either. Cosig on the "Evening Gown" support. So without further ado:

Just Another Night

Say You Will

Joy

Kow Tow

Mother of A Man

The Long Black Veil

Evening Gown

Out of Focus

Memo From Turner

Goddess In The Doorway

Primitive Cool

Wired All Night

Child of the Moon Can anyone tell me where to find Mick singing "Long Black Veil" on disc? I assume it's only available on bootlegs, but...
03-04-03 06:02 PM
glencar The Chieftains' "The Long Black Veil" was released in March 1995. It also contains the RS on "The Rocky Road to Dublin" & some fine stuff by Marianne F, Skinhead O'Connor et al. It should be available at amazon.com & otehr places. I could burn you a copy if necessary.

03-06-03 02:07 AM
woodywoodpecker Hmm let me think.

Well I like "Hard Woman", "Mother of a Man" Wired All Night" Throwaway" I think he is great with or without the stones.
03-06-03 10:56 PM
exile I definitely like Mick's solo work
i never understood why everyone slagged it off so badly
(the general public that is)

Just another night
Throwaway
GOD GAVE ME EVERYTHING
Sweet thing
USE ME
put me in the trash
primitive cool
dont tear me up
wandering spirit
JOY
GUN
Hideaway

that would be my mix

All this solo jagger talk takes me back to seeing him play at Sydney Entertainment centre in 1988, I was 16 years old
Ill always remember that concert it was great. It was my first concert ever.

Even though its got a very 80's feel to it I always loved "Just Another Night"

L&A It's strange, I know many people, mostly younger people, who preferred the solo stuff of Jagger to the Stones. They put the "old" Rolling Stones back in 60-70's... This was really relevant with Wandering Spirit, maybe because it was produced by Rik Rubin (fantastic choice, at my point of view).

For me, a 'Best Of" should be a double compilation with 'She's the Boss' and 'Wandering Spririt', + 2 bonus, 'Blue' and 'Say you will (ext. version)'. WS was definitively his best solo-work, but I have a special attachment to the funny 'She's the boss', which was a good reflection of Jagger's personality. Also liked the duo Sly and Robbie.

Have a nice day
