Ten Thousand Motels I'm beginning to think that ABB is very much underrated. It's just a hunch, mind you. I kind of thought it sucked when I first heard it, minus a couple of tunes. But since I lent it out and I still haven't got it back yet...I'm kind of pining away for it.

So that's maybe one criterion....subjective of course...but what makes a great Stones album????

Break The Spell It sounded good at first listen, with only a few I didn't warm up to right away. I think the ones considered most classic are the ones that take a while to sink in. When I first played Exile, I didn't get it all in one listen. Over repeated plays, it only got better and better and finally "got" the album. A Bigger Bang gets better each time I play it, though there are some tunes on there I don't think I'll ever warm up to like Streets Of Love and Biggest Mistake.

nanatod "...but what makes a great Stones album????"

Ingredients: Slide Guitar (preferably from Mick Taylor), Keith Richards' rhythm guitar, rhythm section of bass and drums that works like a team, rockin' and bluesy vocals from Mick Jagger.

Jumping Jack I either love a Stones song the first time I hear it or I don't. If it takes time to decide it will be forgotten quickly. I judge an album based on how many songs truly blow me away.

A great question. But like many great questions, I don't think there is a clear answer.
