Earlier Statements:
don't see how you could argue the "hardness". that was aerosmith's dominant quality. of course the Stones have just about everything better, but Aerosmith was always the harder band
[/quote]
My Arguements:
Harder doesn't mean better. Iron Maiden is harder than both
Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones....does it really mean they are better??? Limp Biscuit is harder than AC/DC I guess but does it mean they are a better band???
It is all in the groove and feel of your music you see.
You can have someone playing an electric guitar till their fingers bleed and it can sound like Dog Shit.
In the same instance you can have Keith Richards playing strong, solid, and full like on the single Love is Strong. Love is Strong will be out of the league of the amatuer's heavy play in almost all cases no matter how hard he or she is playing or has his or her amp cranked up to distort it because of Richards Style, Groove, and professionalism.
Aerosmith had some really good songs in the 70's. But that is just it....they had some. Toys in the Attic and a few other singles was about it for real good stuff.
Things like "lord of the Thighs" is just garbagy sounding to me. Aerosmith clearly road on the coat tails of the Rolling Stones in the seventies. That is common knowledge.
FACT:
Steven Tyler used to actually go to parties with a picture of Mick Jagger in his wallet and say he was Micks Brother to try and get Kudos! Tyler Stated this in an interview.
Aerosmith has had some great albums since the seventies but are WAY TO MUCH THE SELLOUT for some time now.
"Got Milk" commercials? Gap Commercials? Nickolodian?
Tyler Playing Santa-Clause on a kids special?
The Super Bowl half time thing.
Aerosmith tours with acts like Kiss now. They are not meant to be taken even as little seriously as they once were.
Aerosmith is really more of an act now than an actual Rock n Roll outfit. They appeal to 12, 13, or 14 year olds more than anything eles these days.

Jagger on Tyler/Aerosmith:
"Oh God, Aerosmith! They're just rubbish - absolute bullshit. The singer (Steve Tyler) is quite a nice guy, mind you. He's almost too bloody sweet. He's very kind to me, anyway (smirk). Yeah, you know what I mean. He's such a little sweetheart, really - what can you do with him? Punch 'im in the mouth? Here, what are you playing at, fuckin' impersonating me? - Slam! (Laughs)"

Who gives a crap? Just enjoy the bands for who they are:
The Stones: Money-grubbing rock stars
Aerosmith: Wanna-be Money-grubbing rock stars

Well that might be true, but I wouldn't want to try to argue the point with the Viagra manufacturers. |

jagger praised aerosmith's last album around the time GITD came out. don't take anything jagger says critically too serious |

Jagger said that about Tyler in the mid 70's. Actually, i always thought Aerosmith ripped off Lez Zep musically, more than the Stones. Though Tyler & Perry really were Mick & keith Lite for a while. I saw them only once, yonks ago, when they toured PUMP here in Oz. Quite enjoyable, if very cliched. To me, Aerosmith are what U2 will become. Just keeping relevant to the kiddie-winks by doing soundtracks to teen movies, cartoonish film clips, etc etc. At least, thats how i want U2 to finish up, cause i FUCKING HATE THEM! |

Well because Aerosmith are fellow New Englanders I have to support them to a certain point. They have done some crazy, uncool stuff, but for the time being they're the best we've put out, apart from J Geils maybe. New England just isn't a rock n roll kind of place. They're too "uptight" here or something. |

Not that I can think of. J. Giels or Aerosmith, good though they may be, are not world class rock n roll bands. The American south on the other hand....have flooded the world with r n r. |

I kinda figured the writer was saying the only thing Aerosmith has on the Stones is they are harder. I was just
stating that harder doesn't always mean it is a plus. If a band is hard and good (kinda like the White Stripes are at times) fantastic. But Limp Biscuit gets hard and so does God Smack and it is just stupid for the most part. I was stating that Aerosmith's hardness wasn't always necessarily a plus. In "Draw the Line", and "Sweet Emotion", "Train kept a Rollin", the hardness of their sound really worked well for them. But in 80% of their harder numbers from the seventies it just sounds junky.

Harder, as in hard on the head listening to it. Aerosmith isn't hard, they had some catchy tunes back then, but they have the same old ballad rock tunes formula since the 90's. I hate when the music industry compares Aerosmith to the Stones. There is no comparison, it's like watching the 'Icons' show on MTV. Oh, they've been around since the 70's, big woop, they sucked since the seventies as well. I see nothing iconic about Aerosmith, just another ballad band. 'Oh, we've survived the hard times of rock 'n' roll, we've been through it all and we're still here." What does that mean, they've been around since all the times they we're spoiled brats, living in glut, dealing with their own self inflicted bullshit. I don't see the Stones complaining about their success, giving us all they have at each show. That's why they sell out the big show's, and Aerosmith is playing 20,000 seat places. AEROSMITH SUCK'S BALL'S. They are actually coming to our city in March, what the hell, i'll go see them, it beats listening to this crap on the radio's nowaday's. |

Sure,
But as I said, not all Aerosmith fans are over the age of 12....
