CBC News article: HMV lifts ban on Stones

TORONTO - Music retailer HMV Canada has lifted its ban on selling albums by the Rolling Stones.

The company removed Stones merchandise from its 100 Canadian stores in October to protest an arrangement the band made to sell its Four Flicks DVD exclusively through competing Best Buy outlets.

HMV said it is reversing itself in response to a customer poll. According to an online interactive survey of more than 3,000 people, HMV patrons wanted Stones CDs back on store shelves.

According to HMV Canada's president, Humphrey Kadaner, about 70 per cent of the respondents supported the decision to pull Stones merchandise.

He says about half of those polled now feel the point has been made and they want to see Stones products returned to stores.

"We wanted to gauge how strongly Canadians felt about the issue," he said in a press release.

"HMV also invites the Rolling Stones to join us for their next new release at HMV's flagship Toronto superstore," Kadaner added. "We would be honored to help them launch the product in Canada, provided it is made available to
all retailers on a non-exclusive basis."

Lol..Christmas is over and profit's been lost. The point's been made alright. Their Stones' selection will be just as bad, if not worse, than before material was pulled. And at $30 (Cdn) for a single disc, I still can't see how this was/is in the "best interest of the consumer"...

Greedy buggers.

Monkey Woman Greedy and hypocritical. I doubt their ban made any point to anybody. See the good FF sales...

Lazy Bones Re: "the point", I was being sarcastic. Their point has only been made to themselves - it was stupid , childish and a chunk out of their pockets.

Agreed whole-heartedly...

It would be interesting to see if they do it again - Stones or otherwise.
