Dear Lethargy

as soon as I get a soundboard of Rich Robinson's show at Bowery Ballroom, I'll wait 4-7 years and then send you a copy - he did an extended and AMAZING take of JWSHFace - best version EVER

Red Rooster is going to do a tripped out version of it on Friday

I'll get DK on board and make sure he's in the house!!

MikeyC613 I moved in Thursday, literally a block from Galapagos. And I pick THIS weekend to come home? I couldn't believe it when I saw the flyer yesterday. That show is gonna be sweet. Hope everyone enjoys. As a consolation, I cranked "Rocks Off" at the Brooklyn Ale House.

jb I am seriously thinking of buying some vacation property in Manhattan. New York City is the greatest city in the world, and the shopping is unbeatable. It is very, very expensive, but I can handle an efficiency for 1.2 million.

Do you get to fly free?
23rd February 2007 03:23 PM
glencar Not since 9-11. Terrorists have cramped my freedoms. I used to fly in the cockpit. That's one way to beat back a fear of flying.

Voodoo - YOU ARE DA MAN!!!

heres whats on tap for tonite....

from The New Heathens e-blast...

--------------------

The New Heathens Orchestra (us plus piano, sax, trumpet & trombone) tackling the call-to-joy of "Happy," and then the outlaw boogie of "Rocks Off" performed in front of a video that will explain why our brass is called "The Horns of Porn!"

Americana bashers Red Rooster jamming through "Casino Boogie" and bringing spooky soul to "Just Wanna' See His Face," two songs the Stones themselves have never played live.

The foxy babes and rockin' dudes in Spanking Charlene sexing up "Sweet Black Angel" and setting fire to "Turd on the Run."

The rocking Izzys putting good grind into "Tumblin' Dice" and "Stop Breakin' Down."

The Lonesome Prairie Dogs going hog wild and tearing up "Rip This Joint" and "Shake Your Hips."

The Wicked Messengers rolling through "Shine A Light."

Fourteen Feet twang-banging "Torn & Frayed."

Radio Silent laying out "Soul Survivor."

Early Grace putting that sweet soul into "Lovin' Cup" and "Let It Loose."

And, of course, the babes in the Mike Hunt Band putting the glimmer in "All Down The Line."

Radio Silent lights the fuse at 7 p.m. sharp, followed more or less by the Mike Hunt Band, Fourteen Feet, the Wicked Messengers, the Lonesome Prairie Dogs, the Izzys, the New Heathens, Spanking Charlene, Red Rooster and Early Grace. The New Heathens will probably take the stage around 11 p.m., but the whole night's gonna' be a gas.

Got to roll me,

New Heathens

JuanTCB I went, briefly. I came in halfway through "Soul Survivor" (the doorman told me it was the opening song)which had some cool slide work... then waited around for 15 minutes to see the Mike Hunt Band (just a Mick/Keith duo tonight) sing "Exile On Main St. Blues" and "Cocksucker Blues" - kind of cool, but more in spirit than in practice. The singer was fun, though. Then there was a 25 minute wait, with Brussels '73 playing too quietly to barely even hear in the backgroud, while some dudes with Telecasters tuned up and soundchecked like they were about to take the stage at the Royal Albert Hall. The guitarist even asked for more guitar in "the house" - yeah, Chiefy, "the house" pretty much equalled the 30 people scattered around the other half of the room. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, they started to play. The lead guitarist was great, and rocked a beautiful sunburst Tele. Unfortunately, they were singing some song about "what Elvis would do" - not on Exile, the last time I checked. Halfway through the next bland, pseudo-rockabilly, distinctly non-Exile song, my friends and I looked at each other and said "Let's get the hell out of here". We went to another bar, I plugged three bucks into the jukebox, and we heard Exile from start to finish. Far more enjoyable.

I hope it got better after I left, but from what I saw it was pretty self-important and astoundingly boring. "More guitar in the house" my ass - plug in, flush out, and fire the fuckin' feed!

For the love of God, come on! Just lame. I thought the $5 admission sign out front and the $10 cover charge at the door was a nice touch, too.

LAME.

New Heathen First off, THANK YOU to the Rocks Off board for posting this gig.

The show was a seven hour marathon featuring nine artists with highlights including Spanking Charlene's sweet and soulful version of "Sweet Black Angel," Red Rooster's etherial "Just Wanna' See His Face," The Lonesome Prairie Dog's hard-swinging "Rip This Joint," Fourteen Feet's "Torn & Frayed" complete with glistening harmonies, Early Grace's powerful "Let It Loose," The Wicked Messenger's country-soul rave-up of "Shine A Light," Radio Silent's thundering "Soul Survivor," and the Mike Hunt Band performing "Cocksucker Blues" just for good measure.

It was a real treat for me to perform "Rocks Off," "Happy," "All Down The Line," "Ventilator Blues" and "Sweet Virginia" complete with a killer horn section and great pianoman.

I sincerely apologize to anyone who was put off by the pacing of the show, or some bands' inclusion of original -- albeit Stones inspired -- material. If you weren't happy with the show, please get in touch with me and I'll make sure you get a full refund.

Thanks to all of you who came out!

Sincerely,
Nate

Saint Sway I had basically the complete opposite experience as Juan T. The whole night was really fun. I read his review - sounds bad - but I showed up, I'm guessing about an hour after he left.

when I got there the place was as full as it could be. Lonesome Prarie Dogs were onstage - they were doing some originals but quickly went into country-tonk versions of "Its All Over Now" and "Rip This Joint" - along with an original that I thought was the most Stones-countryish song I heard all night.

I made my way over to say hello to Tammy & Jill - and found out they had already played. Which is too bad because I brought a pair of tighty whiteys labeled "Gerardo" that I was going to toss onstage during their set.

anyways...

rest of the night went great. Yeah all the bands played a bunch of their originals and yeah the PA was too quiet between bands to hear the sound good of the Stones videos. But the bands were all great and the Exile songs and other Stones songs all sounded fanstastic. Crowd was awesome. Boozin & boppin the whole time.

Plenty of good bands. Props to Red Rooster for tacking "Casino Boogie" AND "Just Wanna See His Face" AND "Ventilator Blues". Good shit! But I gotta say The New Heathens stole the show. They opened their set with a blistering "All Down The Line" complete with a full horn section! Easily the best version I've ever heard in a club. Great versions of "Happy" and the stage-crammed sing along on "Sweet Virginia". But the highlight of their set - and the whole night was when the Heathens blasted away "Rocks Off" complete with a raunchy video compilation on the big screen - ala the Stones Licks tour Honkeytonk video projection - complete with steamy sex scene clips from movies over the ages. Brilliant touch!!!

I really want to thank Nate of the New Heathens for putting this night together. He put a ton of work into making it happen and getting all the bands together - all out of his love for the Stones. A really fun time. This was the 2nd one he's put together (the previous was a Gram Parsons tribute) and I think the next one is a Warren Zevon night. Hope to see more of you there for that one.

cheers!

Saint Sway Some Exile aftermath info....

For anyone that went to and wants to see more... or for anyone that just wants to see come good exile flavored, countrified rock and roll this weekend....

2 of the show stealers from the Exile night - both Red Rooster and The New Heathens will both be playing live this TONITE!!! (3/1) at the Baggot Inn in NYC. So come on down!!

and on SATURDAY NIGHT (3/3) in NYC....
New Heathens frontman extraordinaire - and the ill-legitimate love child of Mick Jagger & Dan Baird - will be serving up a toxic mix of decadent Stones tunes with his former band The Goods at The Delancey at 8pm

Stonesy roots rockers and all around kick ass band, LeRoy Justice, will follow The Goods high energy set at 9pm.

best part of all though is that theres NO COVER at The Delancey Saturday night because Camel is sponsoring the bash and giving out tons of FREE SMOKES, FREE LeRoy Justice CDs and an OPEN VODKA BAR!!!

did I mention OPEN VODKA BAR??!!!?!?

yup, free vodka from 9 to 10.

Stones style rock. No cover. Free smokes. Free booze. And a free kick ass CD.

If that doesnt get you off the couch than you might as well move to Omaha and call yourself "Joey"
