Subject: Willie Kent R.I.P.
Chicago blues vocalist, bass player and band leader, Willie Kent,
passed away at 3 PM CST from the effects of lung cancer; he was a non smoker, just played all the smoking clubs.
Willie just had his 70th birthday last Friday, but he was unable to
attend a celebration at a local Chicago blues club. Willie expressed
he wanted to be there, in spite of his illness.
I went to see him at the hospital last Thursday. His fans, and
friends, including myself are going to miss Willie Kent and the Gents with Bonnie Lee performing at B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted every Monday night; a gig that he held down for several years.
Willie was also nominated for the WC HANDY award ( Best Bass
category), for which he did win over a half dozen times.
This one hurts. Willie was great and had one of the best bands in town. Don't have any good pictures of him but here's one.

Many people have died lately who had some modicum of fame. RIP Willie... |

Sad to hear of his passing. Him and Bill Wyman are about the same age. |
